Seminoles Selected for 14th-Consecutive NCAA Tournament

Tallahassee, Fla. – After a season that included a win over the top-ranked team in the country and earning a three-seed in the ACC Tournament, the 21st-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team was selected for its 14th-consecutive NCAA Tournament Tuesday afternoon. The two-seed Noles (18-8) will head to Athens, Ga. in a regional with host Georgia (20-4), three-seed Baylor (15-13), and four-seed South Carolina State (11-8).

“We’re looking forward to playing in the Athens Regional,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “Georgia does a great job of hosting and we have a lot of Seminole fans in the Atlanta area that can travel and watch the team. We know we have a very tough first round match against a national semifinalist from last year (Baylor) and they just beat a national seed in the Big 12 tournament last week.”

This is the second straight year and fourth time in seven seasons that the Seminoles have been place in the Athens Regional. Last year, the Seminoles beat Troy in the first-round before falling to the host Bulldogs.

The Seminoles will face Baylor in the opening round Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m., while Georgia and South Carolina State face off at 1 p.m. The finals will take place Sunday, May 15, at 1 p.m. All matches will take place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the Georgia campus.

With this year’s selection, the Noles have now reached the NCAA Tournament 14 consecutive years, the longest streak in the ACC and the 10th longest in the nation. Florida State is 4-4 all-time in the Athens Regional and looking to reach the Round of 16 for the fourth time in Hultquist’s tenure.
