Seminoles Send Six Swimmers to Finals at Day Two of Men’s ACC Swimming Championships

Thursday’s night session will be a battle as teams try to position themselves in the first full day of competition. Nine Seminoles will swim in the session with the opportunity to score points towards the team score. After the first night of competition, Virginia and Florida State are tied for first place with 74 points.

In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Kyle Young (Oviedo, Fla.) checked in with an NCAA “B” cut time of 4:21.95 to get the two seed in the final. Senior Steve Roof (Canton, Ohio) earned the fifth seed in the final with a NCAA “B” cut time of 4:23.80. Freshman Nick Graves (Lexington, Ky.) turned in a 16th place performance with a time of 4:29.79. He will swim the consolation final.

In the 200-yard individual medley, junior Ed Denton (Maidenhead, England) will be the the lone Seminole representative in the final as he claims the fifth seed in a time of 1:49.76.
freshman Robert Padgett (Greensboro, N.C.) earned the 14th seed with a time of 1:50.86, while senior Paul Erben (Panama City, Fla.) checked in for the 16th seed in a time of 1:51.05. Padgett and Erben will swim the consolation final. Freshman Corey Swanson (Tampa, Fla.) put himself in the bonus consolation final with the 18th place time of 1:51.14.

In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Alex Kennon (Winter Haven, Fla.) claimed the second seed with a NCAA “B” cut time of 20.00. Junior Jarryd Botha (Worcester, South Africa) touched the wall in an NCAA “B” cut time of 20.05. Botha will be the third seed in the final. Finally, sophomore Jimmy Holway (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) took the seventh seed with a time of 20.41. All three Seminoles will compete in the championship final.

Day two finals begin at 7:00 at the Koury Natatorium. The 500-yard freestyle will kick off the eventing. It will be followed by the 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
