TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) — Florida State, which has won three of its last four games, opens its 24th season of Atlantic Coast Conference action as it travels to play Notre Dame at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind., on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. The game between the Seminoles and the Fighting Irish marks only the third meeting between the teams in the sport of basketball with Florida State holding a 2-0 advantage. The Seminoles won the first game between the teams as ACC members during the 2013-14 season in Tallahassee and topped the No. 2-seeded Irish in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Florida State’s game against Notre Dame is its 11th ACC game in the month of December with its first ever ACC game coming as an 86-74 win at North Carolina on December 15, 1991. After Saturday’s game against Notre Dame, the Seminoles will play five non-conference games before continuing its ACC schedule in earnest as they play host to Virginia Tech on January 6, 2015. Following Saturday’s game against Notre Dame, the Seminoles will play host to the University of North Florida on Wednesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.
FLORIDA STATE VS. NOTRE DAME – A SERIES HISTORY
Florida State travels to play at Notre Dame for the first time in school history on December 13, 2014 at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind. Florida State holds a 2-0 series record against Notre Dame. The game will mark the Seminoles’ second game against Notre Dame as members of the ACC and the third time the Seminoles and Irish will meet in the sport of men’s basketball. Florida State topped Notre Dame, 76-74, in the teams’ first meeting as conference members on January 21, 2014 in Tallahassee. The Seminoles defeated then No. 4 Notre Dame, 71-57, on March 20, 2011 in the third round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament at the United Center in Chicago. The win sent the Seminoles into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Seminole head coach Leonard Hamilton has a 9-3 record against Notre Dame and is 2-0 against Notre Dame while coaching Florida State and against Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey. Florida State is currently 7-10 against teams from the state of Indiana.
FLORIDA STATE AGAINST RANKED TEAMS UNDER HAMILTON
Florida State enters Saturday’s game against No. 25 Notre Dame with 29 wins over nationally ranked teams during the first 12+ years of the Leonard Hamilton era in Tallahassee. Included in those wins are six wins over nationally ranked Duke teams including two when the Blue Devils were ranked No. 1 in the country at the time (March 1, 2006, 79-74 and Jan. 12, 2011, 66-61). Florida State has defeated four top five and six top 10 ranked Duke teams under Hamilton with three of the Seminoles’ four all-time victories over the nation’s No. 1 ranked team coming against Duke.

Florida State enters Saturday’s game against No. 25 Notre Dame with a 1-0 record against a ranked Fighting Irish team. The Seminoles topped No. 5/5 Notre Dame, 71-57, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 20, 2011 at the United Center in Chicago. The victory sent the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history.
FLORIDA STATE IN ACC OPENERS
Florida State opens ACC play for the 24th time against Notre Dame since joining the ACC for the 1991-92 season. The Seminoles have won four of their last seven ACC openers and are 7-6 in ACC openers when the game is on the road including a win in its most recent ACC opener at Clemson to begin the 2012-13 season. Notre Dame will mark the Seminoles’ ninth different ACC season opening opponent with Virginia ranking as the Seminoles’ most common opponent in ACC opening games. The Seminoles are 10-13 in ACC openers since their first ever ACC game – an 86-74 win at North Carolina – on December 15, 1991.
