TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team travels to Gainesville, Fla., this weekend to compete in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the Ring Tennis Complex hosted by the University of Florida.

Florida State is one of the 19 schools that make up the Southeast Region and is one of the 16 school playing in the event which serves as the first step towards the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships which will be held in Flushing, N.Y. Nov. 3-6.

Friday’s schedule entails one round of doubles which will begin at 9. a.m. and will be followed by one round of singles and another round of doubles.

There are two pairs of Seminoles playing in those doubles matches. Freshmen Leyla Erkan and Mia Vriens will face the team from North Florida of Lorena Aviles and Aline Berkenbrock. Sophomore Ruth Seaborne and junior Carolina De los Santos will open play against Jenna Doerfler and Courtney Fiffith from Central Florida.

In the first round of singles, Vriens will play Tereza Lerova from Georgia State, De Los Santos will face Aline Staudt from Jacksonville and Erkan will face No. 25 Anna Bartenstein from Miami who is the No. 4 seeded player in the tournament.

Saturday and Sunday will feature one round of doubles with two rounds of singles to follow and will begin at 9 a.m. Championship Monday will have the main and consolation finals in both doubles and singles. The start time is yet to be determined.

The singles and doubles champions from the event will secure automatic berths into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships. There are at-large bids that could be made as well.
