TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Beginning 2019 where they left off at the end of 2018, Florida State Softball is the No. 1 team in the country in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) preseason poll, and ranks No. 3 in the USA Softball poll as announced by both organizations on Tuesday. The Seminoles received the most first-place votes of any team in each of the polls – 21 in NFCA and seven in USA Softball.
It is the 10th time in school history that the Seminoles have been the NFCA’s No. 1 team, which ranks 12th all-time in the history of the poll. Florida State will play six other teams that account for a total of 150 weeks at No. 1 in the NFCA poll – Arizona (67), Florida (49), Oklahoma (16), Tennessee (14), LSU (3) and Minnesota (1).
Florida State will play 18 games against 10 teams during the 2019 regular season that will begin the poll either ranked or receiving votes in the preseason NFCA/USA Softball polls, including five Top 10 teams – No. 4/4 Oklahoma, No. 5/5 Florida, No. 7/6 Arizona, No. 8/8 Tennessee, No. 11/10 LSU.
The Seminoles will celebrate Fan Day at JoAnne Graf Field on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m., with a scrimmage and other events happening throughout the afternoon. The evening will close with a Kickoff Social at 5:00 p.m., and tickets are available through the Seminole Boosters at https://one.fsu.edu/boosters/events/softballkickoffsocial.
The 2019 regular season will open on Friday, February 8 with the inaugural JoAnne Graf Classic as UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro and Iowa State come to Tallahassee for the three-day weekend tournament to celebrate the historic NFCA Hall of Fame coach.
