Sophomore Katie Rybakova Travels To National Indoors Championship

CHARLOTTESSVILEE, Va. – While the rest of Florida State women’s tennis team travels to compete at the Miami Invitational this weekend, Katie Rybakova will be matched up against Katsiaryna Zheltova of Sacramento State at the 2008 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. Hosted by Virginia, matches will take place at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.

“I’m so thrilled that Katie was chosen to compete in this year’s National Indoor Championships,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Last year, she just missed the cut and for her to be included in the best field in college tennis this year is fitting. She had a tremendous freshman year last year and has played consistently this fall as well. For her to be recognized and selected for this event speaks volumes.”

No. 24 Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) will be playing in a 32 player singles’ matches which begins at 1:30 p.m. today. If triumphant, Rybakova will either face the No. 1 seed Aurelija Misevicute of Arkansas or No. 43 Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame.

“Katie will approach this national event with a more prepared mentality, knowing she now has more experience under her belt,” said Hyde. “It will be a very exciting weekend in Virginia.”
