Sophomore Lewis Shoots Florida State Into 10th Place At Alabama Invitational

March 23, 2001

Florida State sophomore Andy Lewis shot a two-over par 74 and stands in a tie for 16th place and the Seminole men’s golf team is in tenth place after the first round of the Conrad Rehling/University of Alabama Invitational at the `Ol Colony Golf Course. Lewis begins the second round of competition Saturday only five strokes off the pace set by John Pitt of Vanderbilt.

Lewis (Garland, Texas) played well on day one with a split of 39 on the first nine holes and 35 on the back nine. His score of 35 made him one of only seven golfers to shoot 35 or better on the final nine holes of the course. Lewis’ round of 74 marked the fifth time over the course of his last seven rounds that he had shot 74 or better.

Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) also played well for the Seminoles in round one as he shot a season-low 75 and is tied for 21st heading into the second round. He, too, shot a stellar 35 on the back nine to enter the clubhouse with a three-over par score for the day.

Florida State totaled a 306 for the day and stands in tenth place. The Seminoles are only eight strokes out of the top five and 13 strokes behind the College of Charleston. Charleston shot a five-over par score of 293 and lead the host team, Alabama, and Vanderbilt by one stoke.
