Drafted in the 14th round (454th overall pick) of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers…in 31 relief appearances he went 5-1 with a 3.81 ERA over 49.2 innings with 40 strikeouts…made season debut working 5.1 innings in relief of game two against Hofstra in earning the win – the 10th victory of his career…faced the minimum in 3.0 perfect innings of relief in game one against Maine and struck out three…picked up the victory at Duke in relief as he worked 1.1 innings allowing a run on four hits while striking out three…worked 4.0 scoreless innings in relief against Virginia in game one earning his third victory of the season…struck out a season-high four and allowed just two hits…moved to 4-0 on the year working 4.1 innings in relief in game two at Boston College – allowed one run on four hits as he did not issue a walk and struck out three…made two appearances against Rhode Island and worked 2.0 scoreless innings in relief – earned a win in game three and helped preserve the shutout in game two…appeared twice in the Tallahassee Super Regional against Stanford working one scoreless inning in game one while striking out two and 1.1 innings in game two giving up one earned run on one hit as the Noles advanced to the CWS…pitched a combined 2.1 scoreless innings in 2 games of the CWS – gave up one hit against Arizona and struck out 1 against UCLA in 1.1 innings.

A three sport star at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla., where he played baseball, football and basketball…named First Coast Player of the Year in baseball as a senior in 2008, while earning first team All-State class 3A honors…right-hander fired five complete games in 10 starts, registering 50 strikeouts in 54 innings…he went 8-2 with a 1.81 ERA as a senior…offensively, Scantling hit .613 with 12 home runs in his final year…received the Jacksonville Suns Peter Brogan Award as the top player in North Florida in 2008…named to the academic Dean’s List during his junior and senior seasons… drafted in the 49th round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2008 MLB Draft.
