Emerged as one of college baseball’s top closers in 2012 and for his efforts was recognized as a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year, a first team All-American by Baseball America, NCBWA and Perfect Game and a third team All-American by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball…finished the 2012 season with a 4-2 record, 16 saves and a 1.32 ERA in 32 appearances…allowed just eight runs, six earned, in 41.0 innings of work as he gave up 24 hits while holding opponents to a .163 batting average…posted a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.3 as he tallied 58 strikeouts to just seven walks…also named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and a first team All-ACC honoree, converted 16 of 19 save situations in 2012 and ranked second in the ACC and sixth nationally in saves…his 16 saves were the second most recorded in a single-season in school history and tied for sixth on FSU’s career saves list…of his 16 saves, eight came in one-run games and four more in two-run games…drafted by the Washington Nationals in the seventh round of the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft.


Appeared in 20 games with three starts…went 2-2 with a 3.58 ERA during his sophomore campaign…registered 24 strikeouts in 32.2 innings while holding opponents to a .244 batting average…allowed no more than one run in 18 appearances…opened the season throwing 10.1 scoreless innings in his first 10 games – allowed just three hits and three walks while recording nine strikeouts during that span…threw a season-high 5.0 innings twice first in a relief appearance at Jacksonville and the next in his first start of the season at Stetson…struck out a career-high six against the Dolphins while allowing just one run on two hits…allowed one run on five hits as he walked two and struck out one in earning the victory over the Hatters…struck out four in 2.2 innings of relief at NC State…started against NC State in the ACC Tournament and worked 3.1 innings – allowed an unearned run and suffered the loss…saw action against Texas A&M in the first game of the Super Regional in Tallahassee.


Split time between mid-week starter and working out of the bullpen as a true freshman…made 13 appearances, including four starts…finished with a 2-0 worksheet and a 5.32 ERA…made his collegiate debut against Georgia State with 2.0 shutout innings in relief…first career start came in the series finale against Hofstra when he allowed two runs (one earned) in 2.0-plus innings…faced the minimum in a scoreless inning of relief in game 1 vs. Georgia…went 0.2 innings in the series opener against Virginia Tech, surrendering two runs; his first in relief on the year…tossed 1.1 shutout innings against Miami in the ACC Tournament opener, yielding one hit with a strikeout…best stretch came over four relief appearances, when he held opponents scoreless for 3.2 combined innings.


Earned first team All- State accolades and was a Hillsborough County first team honoree at Armwood High School…helped his team to the state semifinals…recipient of the Saladino Award, Cy Young Award and Armwood Distinguished Athlete Award…played in the FACA All-Star game…named to the All-Western Conference first team…played in the Hillsborough County vs. Pinellas County All-Star game at Tropicana Field…received the Wade Boggs Award for his efforts at the game…registered a 4.8 GPA throughout high school and was actively involved in student government…drafted in the 33rd round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2009 MLB Draft.


Son of Robert Benincasa Sr. and Tina Magnani…major is finance…played with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League during the summer of 2011…helped the Mat-Su Miners capture a second consecutive Alaska Baseball League title in 2010 summer league play…joined by Seminole teammates Scott Sitz and Gage Smith, went 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA…aspires to play professional ball…member of the 3.0 GPA Club at FSU (Spring 2011)…ACC Academic Honor Roll (2010-11)…born September 5, 1990.
