JUNIOR (2018):

Made 14 appearances, all starts, finishing 7-4 with a 4.54 earned run average and 88 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched…opponents hit just .208 against the hard-throwing right-hander…started as FSU’s game two starter in weekend series before Tyler Holton’s injury on opening day…won his first four starts against Xavier (2/17), Troy (2/23), UNC Asheville (3/2) and Wake Forest (3/9)…threw a career-high seven innings in back-to-back starts against Louisville (3/29) and Georgia Tech (4/6)…struck out 11 batters in the ACC Championship semifinal against Clemson (5/26), his first career double-digit strikeout game…missed a pair of starts mid-season against Boston College and Miami due to biceps tendonitis and left the NCAA Regional game early with an injury…a three-year starter, made 48 career starts before being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft and signing in late June.

SOPHOMORE (2017):

Started 17 games in the 2017 season, second most among starting pitchers…ended the year with 83.1 innings pitched and notched 72 strikeouts in that span, while walking only 29…made his season debut with his start on February 18 against VCU where he threw five and two-thirds innings and allowed just four hits and two runs en route to the first win of his 2017 campaign…stifled the Virginia Tech offense to just one run and seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings on March 17…attained three quality starts in a row on March 24, 31, and April 7 in which he pitched six innings in each game and racked up a total of 16 strikeouts in the three-game stretch…set career-highs for innings pitched (6.2) and strikeouts (8), while tallying season-lows in hits allowed (2) and walks (0), and sat down 15 consecutive Duke hitters from the first to the sixth inning in the ACC Tournament, sending Florida State to the Championship Final on May 27…pitched three scoreless innings of relief against Sam Houston State and struck out four Bearkats in Super Regionals to help send Florida State to Omaha for the College World Series for the 22nd time in school history…played summer ball for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League, where he went 1-0 over 17 innings pitched and struck out 21 batters on his way to securing a 3.71 ERA.

FRESHMAN (2016):

Started 17 games during the season, tied for the most by a pitcher…collected 50 strikeouts over 69.2 innings pitched…garnered a 4.13 ERA and a record of 6-7 for the 2016 season…began his season on February 21 against Rhode Island when he threw five innings without allowing an earned run and he struck out six bringing him his first collegiate career win…pitched three hitless innings on March 9 against Toledo, becoming one in a trio of pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter…matched a season-high 6.0 innings pitched with six strikeouts against Duke while giving up three runs and throwing a career-high 106 pitches…played summer ball for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod league and earned a 18/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 14 innings pitched…ranked as D1Baseball’s No. 21 prospect in the Cape Cod League.

HIGH SCHOOL:

Graduated from North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee…capped off a solid senior season by tossing 66.1 innings where he finished 5-1 with 73 strikeouts, allowed 32 hits and posted a 0.32 ERA…was drafted in the 22nd round (No. 649) in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros…named First Team All-America by Louisville Slugger…earned Big Bend Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior…participated in the Under Armour All-American Game held at Wrigley Field…ranked as the 60th best college prospect by Perfect Game…participated in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star game as a senior.

PERSONAL:

Son of Lynna and David Sands…has one sibling, Carson…brother, who was also a Florida State commitment, was drafted in the fourth round (No. 109) of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs…father David also attended Florida State…majoring in sport management…born on July 17, 1997.
