WHY I WEAR MY NUMBER

I wear No. 2 at Florida State because I am the second member of my family to play at Florida State.  My dad, Michael, wore No. 45 during his career as a Seminole (1988, 1989, 1991).

Anthony Polite is the 10th player in school history (and the first since C.J. Walker in 2017 and 2018) to wear No. 2 at Florida State. The No. 2 was worn by Marquez White during the 2013-14 season.  White played both basketball and football at Florida State and played in the Rose Bowl (as a Seminole football player) and in the NIT at Madison Square Garden (as a basketball player) in the same season.  He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

WHAT'S IN A NAME

My full name is Anthony Michael Lewis Polite.  Anthony comes from Saint Antonio (also known as Anthony of Lisbon) whose birthday was June 13, 1231.  My grandmother was also born on June 13 and my mother really loved the name Anthony.  My middle name, Michael, is from my dad and Lewis is after my mother’s grandfather – my great-grandfather.

MY HOMETOWN

My hometown of Lugano, Switzerland, is located in the southern part of the country.  It is a quiet and calm place surrounded by mountains and different colors in nature.  The climate is hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.  There are many days when it might be cold with snow early in the day and dry, hot and sunny later in the day.  Lugano is the ninth-largest city in Switzerland with a population of just 63,000.  Since the city of Lugano shares a border with Italy, many people speak Italian within its borders.
