JOHN HORNER

“With his size, ability to shoot from the perimeter and defensive presence, John played an integral role for one of New Jersey’s best high school programs. He helped St. Augustine win the South Jersey Non-Public A title in 2020 and finish 13-2 in 2021,” said Michael McGarry of the Press of Atlantic City.

I’m wearing No. 25 at Florida State because that was the number my head coach gave me in high school and I’ve worn it ever since.  I wore the number in each of my four years on the varsity team.

Hugh Durham, one of the greatest players (and coaches) in Florida State history wore No. 25 during his playing career (1957-59) as a Seminole.  He is ranked 18^th in school history as he scored 1,381 points and ninth in school history with an 18.9 points per game scoring average.  As Florida State’s head coach, he led the Seminoles to three NCAA Tournament appearances including the 1972 NCAA Final Four.

My full name is John Robert Horner. I was named after my grandfather who is also named John Robert.

I’m from Ventnor City, N.J.  The best way to describe my hometown is as a tiny beach town in South Jersey right next to Atlantic City.

A member of the Florida State Basketball Team during the 2021-22 season…joined the Seminoles during the summer of 2021…can handle the ball on the perimeter and finish around the rim…can affect a game both offensively and defensively…attended the NCAA College Basketball Academy at the University of Connecticut in 2019…a member of Team Rio coached by Mike Rice on the Under Amour circuit.

A member of the team but did not play in any games…practiced with the team throughout the 2021-22 season.

Graduated from St. Augustine Prep in 2021…earned All-Cape-Atlantic League First Team honors as voted on by the coaches as a senior…earned All-Cape Atlantic Second-Team honors as a senior…led the Hermits to a 13-2 league record, a share of the Cape Atlantic League regular season championship and the No 9 position in the New Jersey State Top 30 rankings by NJ.com…averaged 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds in 15 games played during his senior season…second on his prep team with 13 3-point field goals made and third with 14 steals in his final prep season…scored in double figures in 10 different games including his season high of 21 points in a win over Vineland…totaled 19 points in a victory over Hammonton and 16 in a St. Augustine’s season-opening win over Holy Spirit…a double double of 16 points and 14 rebounds came in the win over Holy Spirit…also totaled a double double of 21 points and 10 rebounds against Vineland…helped legendary head coach Paul Rodio win his 900^th career game during the 2019 season…was a preseason All-South Jersey Honorable Mention selection as a senior…voted to have the 2021 New Jersey High School Dunk of the Year by the new Jersey Sports Zone…averaged 9.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in leading the Hermits to a 24-5 record as a junior in 2020…helped the Hermits won the South Jersey Non-Public championship…totaled his season-high of 23 points in a win over West Deptford…each Academic Dean’ List honors in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Born January 17, 2003…John is the son of Katie and Evan Horner…Katie was a member of the crew team at Rutgers…an older brother, Evan, played football at Eastern New Mexico University…an older sister, Emma, attends St. Leo University and is an member of the Acrobatic and Tumbling team…a nephew of former NC State star Dennis Horner (2006-10) who played for the New Jersey Nets (2011-12).
