There is no real significance to why I will wear No. 10 during my Florida State career. I wore No. 13 when I played at Rice; that’s the same number I wore when I played at the Bosco Institute.  I know a number of good players have worn No. 10 here at Florida State, including Sam Cassell and Okaro White, and I want to make them proud while I am wearing the number.

The No. 10 is very special in the history of Florida State basketball. It has been worn by 15 players including All-American Sam Cassell who led the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament during both of his seasons in Tallahassee (1992 and 1993). He was Florida State’s leading scorer in his first season while averaging 18.4 points per game and led the Seminoles to 47 wins in his two-year career. Cassell guided Florida State to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and was a first-round pick of the Houston Rockets in the 1993 NBA Draft.

My full name is Malik James Osborne.  Malik comes from a close friend of my father and James from my father.

My hometown of Matteson, Illinois is a quiet town with friendly, hardworking people who support me through their endeavors.

Earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Florida State University on April 23, 2021…has begun work on a second bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a concentration in Communications…was a team leader and a starter on Florida State’s 2020 ACC Championship team…played in 103 career games (31 at Rice during the 2017-18 season and 72 in three seasons at Florida State)…totaled his career-high for scoring 10.0 ppg) and rebounding averages (6.9) during his senior season of 2021-22 at Florida State…played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career during the 2020-21 season and helped the Seminoles to the Sweet 16…was a member of two NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 teams (2018-19 during his redshirt season and in 2020-21)…also a member of the Seminoles’ 2019-20 season during which Florida State won the ACC regular season championship and earned the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament…the ACC Tournament and the ensuing NCAA Tournament was cancelled because of the coronavirus…finished his career tied for 22^nd in Florida State history with a career 3-poiint shooting percentage of .361 (60 of 166) in 72 career games as a Seminole…averaged 20 3-point shots made per season during his three years at Florida State…his free throw shooting percentage of .831 (54 of 65) during his redshirt senior season of 2021-22 is tied for the 18^th best single-season free throw shooting percentage in school history…in addition to his position as a starter on the nationally ranked Seminole Men’s Basketball Team, Osborne honorably served as a member of the Florida State University President’s Task Force on Anti-Racism, Equality & Inclusion during the 2020-2021 academic year…in his fourth season as a Seminole after transferring to Florida State from Rice and sitting out the 2018-19 season because of NCAA transfer rules…came to Florida State from Rice University where he played as a freshman for the Owls during the 2017-18 season…averaged 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds as Rice finished with an overall record of 7-24 and a 4-14 mark in Conference USA play…Florida State had a .701 overall winning percentage (61-26 overall record) and a .673 ACC winning percentage (37-18) in his two three seasons (2020, 2021, and 2022)…the Seminoles were 90-234 overall (.726 winning percentage) and 49-22 in ACC play (.690 winning percentage) in Osborne’s four seasons as a member of the program…an ESPN Top 10 Play of the Day honoree twice (in consecutive games) during the 2020-21 season…was ranked as the No. 3 Play of the Day on January 19 for Rise to the Top of the KCF YUM! Center dunk in Florida State’s victory at Louisville…was celebrated for a second game in a row as the No. 3 Play of the Day on January 23 for his incredible blocked shot at the basket against Clemson in the Seminoles win over the Tigers in the Donald L. A redshirt season after transferring from Rice University prior to the 2018-19 season…practiced with the Seminoles throughout the season as he prepared himself to play for Florida State during the 2019-20 season…added more than 25 pounds of muscle to his frame and became a much stronger player because of his work on the court with Associate Head Coach Stan Jones and Director of Strength and Conditioning Mike Bradley…traveled and practiced with the Seminoles to the NCAA first and second rounds in Hartford, Conn…given the opportunity to travel with the Seminoles via an NCAA waiver because Florida State University was on spring break during the Seminoles’ first and second round wins over Vermont (March 21, 2019, 76-69) and Murray State (March 23, 2019, 92-69).

Averaged 9.0 points (fourth on the team), 6.5 rebounds (second), a career-high 0.8 blocked shots (first) and 0.6 steals (third), while shooting .414 from the field…ranked third amongst his Owl teammates with 280 points…ranked fifth on the team with 22 3-point shots made…started 27 of the Owls’ 31 games…was a starter in each of Rice’s final 27 games of the season – including each of its 18 conference games…earned his first career start against Ole Miss (Nov. 22) as he scored four points and pulled down six rebounds in 25 minutes of play…his starting assignment against Ole Miss was the first of 27 consecutive starts for the freshman…finished his inaugural season ranked in the top ten on Rice’s freshman list for rebounds (fifth / 202), blocked shots (fifth / 24), free throws attempted (sixth / 115) and free throws made (seventh / 74)…ranked third on the team as a 12-time double figure scorer…20 or more points came twice in the final six games of the season with his season-high of 24 points coming against Marshall (Feb. 15) and 20 coming at Florida International (Feb. 24)…averaged 14.0 points with four double figure scoring games in his final six games of the season…two double-doubles (22 points and 13 rebounds against Marshall and 10 points and 10 rebounds against UTEP) in that season-ending stretch of six games…scored in double figures for the first time in his career against the University of Texas Rio Grande with 14 points against the Vaqueros (Dec. 2)…his 6.5 rebounds per game average ranked him second on the team and 14th in Conference USA…he ranked ninth in the league in offensive rebounds per game (2.3)…the Rice team leader in rebounds 11 times…double figure rebounds four times as a freshman – 11 at New Mexico (Dec. 19), 13 at Texas San Antonio (Dec. 28), 13 against Marshall (Feb. 15) and 10 at Texas El-Paso (March 1)…totaled 13 rebounds against Texas San Antonio (Dec. 28) in the first Conference USA game of his career…totaled eight or more rebounds in 13 different games…led the Owls in rebounding for the first of 11 times including in the second game of his career with eight rebounds at Georgia State (Nov. 14)…pulled down a team-high nine rebounds against UNLV in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Main Event (Nov. 20)…finished third amongst his Rice teammates with three double-doubles…recorded first career double-double at New Mexico as he scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds…second career double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds against Marshall (Feb. 15)…totaled third career double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in Rice’s 76-70 win over UTEP (March 1)…led the team with 24 blocks.

Averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting .510 from the field in his only season at the Bosco Institute in Indiana in 2017…led Bosco to the Mid-American Prep Championship in 2017 – the second consecutive season Bosco won the championship…named the MVP of the Mid-American Prep Championship in 2017…in the last three seasons, Don Bosco has produced more than 15 Division I players including former Seminole and 2019 first round NBA Draft choice Mfiondu Kabengele and Osborne, who will play his second season for the Seminoles in 2020-21…Kabengele and Osborne were not teammates at Bosco.

Born April 9, 1998…Malik is the son of Tina and James Osborne…James played football at Iowa State and Tina ran track at Lewis College…earned 10 offers to play Division I basketball during his one season at the Bosco Institute…among the schools who extended offers were Rice, Seton Hall and Oregon State coming out of prep school…among his choices when transferring from Rice to Florida State were Northwestern, Wisconsin, San Diego State, Kansas State, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech…earned his first bachelor’s degree in Criminology and is pursuing a second bachelor’s in Humanities with a concentration in Communications – both from Florida State.
