I wore No. 11 for three years at Ryerson University and I feel like it’s a good number to put me in a strong mindset.  My three years at Ryerson were my best three years of basketball in terms of learning and growing and that’s what I want this season to be for me — lots of learning, lots of growing and finishing my career with a bang.

Tanor Ngom is the 24^th player in school history to wear No. 11. The No. 11 was worn by Lorenzo Hands during his standout career at Florida State (1989-93) – a time period when the Seminoles played in four NCAA Tournaments. Hands averaged 2.3 points in 96 career games.

My full name is Abdoulaye Tanor Ngom. Both my grandfathers from my mom and my dad’s side were called Abdoulaye. My father’s dad was called Tanor as well and that’s where I got my name from. I ask people to call me Tanor because they usually butcher the name Abdoulaye (lol). Tanor is usually easier for people to pronounce.

Senegal is a warm place with amazing people living there. I haven’t been back in four years, so as soon as I can get my own ticket back I’ll have to go.

Graduated from Florida State with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science on April 30, 2022…played two seasons and 43 games as a Seminole…played in 23 games during the 2020-21 season for Florida State – a season which saw him play in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career…played in 20 games with 15 starting assignments during the 2021-22 season…a transfer from Ryerson University in Canada…the Seminoles’ final signee of the 2020-21 recruiting class, Ngom signed a Grant in Aid to play for Leonard Hamilton and his staff on July 10, 2020…his first year at Ryerson (2017-18) was his first year of organized basketball…earned playing time in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career in 2021 as he helped the Seminoles reach the Sweet 16 with wins over UNC Greensboro and Colorado in the first and second rounds of the national championship tournament…stands 7-2 with a 7-6 wingspan…is a natural disrupter on defense…was in the NBA Draft process in 2019 as he earned a workout with the Toronto Raptors…became the first player from a Canadian University to attend the Nike Academy in Los Angeles in 2019, where he put on an impressive performance…the Nike Academy is an annual event, where the best collegiate basketball players in North America gather for drills, workouts, film sessions, and scrimmages, all led by current and former NBA players…models much of his game after NBA star Dirk Nowitzki…named to the 2021 ACC Academic Honor Roll…earned one award at the Seminoles’ 2022 Honors Banquet…named as an Outstanding Academic All-Star by Head Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff.

Averaged 5.7 points (eighth on the team), 2.8 rebounds (sixth) and blocked 0.8 shots (second) in helping the Seminoles to a 17-14 overall record and a 10-10 mark in ACC play…played in 20 games with 15 starting assignments including 14 games and 11 starts in ACC play…established his Florida State career-highs for field goals made (42), field goals attempted (67), field goal percentage (.627), 3-point field goals made (two), 3-point field goals attempted (10) free throws made (27), free throws attempted (34), total points (113), average points per game (5.7), offensive rebounds (24), defensive rebounds (31), total rebounds (55), assists (four), blocked shots (15), steals (six), minutes played (248), average minutes played per game (12.4) and starting assignments (15)…scored in double figures in a Florida State career-high five different games…scored his Florida State career-high of 13 points in the in Florida State’s victory over North Florida (Jan 20)…also scored in double figures in ACC games against Notre Dame (March 2, 12 points), at Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium (Feb. 19, 11 points), on Senior day against NC State (March 5, 10 points) and against Loyola Marymount (Nov. 21, 10 points) in the semifinals of the Jacksonville Classic…totaled his Florida State career-high of seven rebounds against NC State at home with five or more rebounds coming in consecutive games against Notre Dame (5) and NC State (7)…tied his career-high with three blocked shots in a win over Clemson at the Donald L. Tucker Center (Feb. 15)…multiple blocked shots in three different games with two against Missouri in the championship game of the Jacksonville Classic (Nov. 21), three against Clemson and 2 against NC State…a starter for the first time with 10 points and 4 rebounds in Florida State’s 73-45 win over Loyola Marymount in the semifinals of the Jacksonville Classic at the UNF Arena…was 5 of 6 from the field and totaled one assist in the win over the Lions…returned to the court after missing nine games with a knee injury with 1 rebound in 1 minute of playing time in Florida State’s 79-78 win over No. 5 Duke at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee (Jan. 18)…totaled a career-high 13 points with 3 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in 27 minutes of playing time in Florida State’s 86-73 win over UNF at the Donald L. Tucker Center…scored 9 points with 4 rebounds in 13 minutes of play in Florida State’s game against Syracuse in the ACC Tournament at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y… (March 9).

Averaged 2.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.6 blocked shots as he played in 23 of Florida State’s 25 games in his first season as a Seminole…shot the basketball well as he shot .576 from the field and .895 from the free throw line…helped the Seminoles to an 18-7 overall record and to an 11-4 mark in ACC play…Florida State finished in second place in the regular season ACC standings, advanced to the championship game of the ACC Tournament for the fourth time in school history and to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive tournament…Florida State defeated four nationally ranked teams in his first season – No. 25 Florida (83-71, Dec. 12), No. 20 Clemson (80-61, Jan 23), No. 7 Virginia (81-60, Feb. 15) and No. 22 Colorado (71-53, March 22)…made his Florida State debut in Florida State’s season-opening victory over North Florida with three points and three rebounds in seven minutes played against the Ospreys (Dec. 2)…his season-high of six points came in Florida State’s 83-71 win over Florida (Dec. 12), its 105-73 victory over NC State (Jan. 13) and its 64-54 win over UNC Greensboro in the NCAA Tournament (March 20)…tied his season-highs with six points and four rebounds in Florida State’s victory over UNC Greensboro in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Starred for three seasons at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada…as a freshman he averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game and was named to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-Rookie Team…averaged 11.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game as a sophomore…set Ryerson’s single-season blocks record with 48 and tied a program record with a field goal percentage of .638…declared himself eligible for the 2019 NBA Draft before returning to school…as a senior he averaged 16.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game…earned All-OUA Second Team honors…grabbed a program-record 23 rebounds to go with 23 points in an 87–82 win over Western on Jan. 11, 2020…in 60 career games at Ryerson, Ngom averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 61 percent from the field…helped the Rams to a 55-15 record during his career there.

Averaged 16.7 points (third on the team), 11.5 rebounds (first) and 1.9 blocked shots (first) in leading Ryerson to 17-7 overall record…played in 18 of the Ram’s 24 games as he began the season with a hand injury…averaged a double-double with 16.7 points, 11.5 rebounds (second highest in Ontario University Athletics Conference), and 1.9 blocks (second highest in OUA) in 24.8 minutes per game…totaled 267 points, 17 assists, 184 rebounds (second highest in OUA), and 30 blocks (second highest in OUA) in 396 minutes…shot .635 percent from the field and .784 from the free-throw line…a historic performance helped Ryerson over the No. 10 ranked Western Mustangs, 87-82, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on January 11, 2020…etched his name in to the Ryerson history book by pulling down a school-record 23 rebounds in the Rams’ win…he pulled down his twenty-second rebound of the game late in the fourth quarter…the previous record of 21 rebounds was set by Joseph Imbrogno in 2006 and matched by Igor Bakovic in 2009…Ngom finished the contest with 23 points and 23 rebounds on 9-18 shooting from the field…tied his career-high of 24 points in a win over Ottawa on Jan. 24, 2020…started in both OUA post-season games, averaging 15 points, eight rebounds, and 3.5 blocks in 21 minutes per game…named an OUA Second-Team All-Star…named Ryerson’s male Athlete of the Week twice: Dec. 3, 2019 and Jan. 13, 2020.

Averaged 11.3 points (tied for third), 5.6 rebounds (third) and a career-high 2.3 blocked shots (first) in leading Ryerson to a 21-7 overall record…totaled a single-season school-record and team-best 48 blocks, ranking him second in both the OUA and amongst all Canadian collegiate teams…shot a team-best .638 percent from the field, ranking him second in the league and third in the country…shot a career-best .813 from the free throw line…his 118 rebounds (5.6 rpg) ranked him third on the team…totaled four double-doubles…made six appearances in the postseason for the Rams…led the Rams through their OUA playoff run, scoring 51 points and averaging 26.3 minutes in three games…ranked first in the league in blocks (seven) while ranking second in field goal percentage (.792) and total rebounds (26) in the OUA playoffs…scored his postseason high of 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in an 84-61 win in the OUA quarter-final against Ottawa on Feb. 23, 2019…averaged 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game at the 2019 U SPORTS Final 8 national championship… his regular-season field goal percentage (.638) tied Ryerson’s all-time program record, established by Scott Belasco in 1993-94…his 48 single-season blocks statistic established a new program record…named one of Ryerson’s Stars of the Week on Oct. 1, 2018, Nov. 7, 2018, Jan. 21, 2019 and Feb. 4, 2019…named Ryerson’s Male Athlete of the Week, twice: Nov. 11, 2018, and Feb. 25, 2019…had an opportunity to showcase his ability on a national stage when the Duke Blue Devils travelled to Toronto and played against Ngom and the Rams during their Canada Tour…Ngom scored 12 points, totaled six assists and blocked three blocks in 24 minutes of action against Duke…became the first Canadian university player to participate in the prestigious Nike Elite Basketball Skills Academy — bringing the 20 best collegiate players together for a five-day premium training experience.

Averaged 5.8 points (seventh on the team), 4.2 rebounds (fifth) and 1.3 blocked shots (first) in leading Ryerson to a 17-6 overall record…appeared in all 23 of Ryerson’s regular season games while starting in nine…shot .523 from the field, averaged just under 13 minutes per game and pulled down 4.2 rebounds per game…totaled 31 blocks on the year, ranking him first on the Rams and fifth in the OUA…played 51 minutes and appeared in all four of Ryerson’s OUA playoff games…helped the Rams advance to the U SPORTS final, where they fell just short in the championship game against the Calgary Dinos…totaled 26 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in four playoff games…averaged 25 minutes over three games in the U SPORTS Final 8 national championship…scored his season-high of 16 points against Waterloo on Nov. 24, 2017… named to the OUA All-Rookie Team…a finalist for Ryerson’s Eyeopener Male Rookie of the Year award.

Born January 19, 1998…full name is Elhadj Abdoulaye Tanor Ngom…is one of six children: Jeanne Cadouot, Nagone Dior, Nagone Diaba, Khady Meissa, and Mauhamed Meissa…Tanor is the fourth oldest of the six brothers and sisters in his family…began playing basketball at age 14 and moved to Germany at age 15 where he began learning the game at a higher level…was discovered by Ryerson University Head Coach Roy Rana on an overseas trip by the college program he would eventually play for during three seasons…members of the Ryerson team were in Senegal as part of the SEED (Sports for Education and Economic Development) project as the team’s community involvement initiative…the SEED program is an annual event featuring the top high school prospects in Senegal…chose to attend Ryerson after also earning attention from the basketball program at the University of Connecticut…earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Florida State on April 30, 2022.
