Redshirt senior returns as the school record-holder indoors in the 800…collected All-American honors for the first time indoors in 2016…will once again use the cross country season for building his base to chase an NCAA Outdoor berth…has been an ACC 800 finalist – indoor and outdoor – every season.


Indoor: Earned second-team All-American honors for the first time in his career by placing 14th at the NCAA Indoor Championships (1:49.81)…Set FSU school record (1:47.42) in runner-up finish at ACC Indoor Championships, securing spot in NCAA field…won UCS Invitational in 1:50.09 with flat track conversion netting top seed at ACC…opened at Razorback Invitaitonal with seventh-place finish (1:49.97). Outdoor: Advanced to the second round of the 800 at the NCAA East Preliminary for the second consecutive year, but came up five spots shy of an NCAA berth…placed fourth at the ACC Outdoor Championships in the 800 and contributed the fastest leg on FSU’s fifth-place 4×400 relay…was sixth at Payton Jordan Invitational (1:48.65), just off his personal-best…scored wins at Seminole Invitational by matching personal-best (1:48.55) and at Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.


Indoor: Competed in three meets as a redshirt sophomore and was strong from start to finish…lent an 800-meter leg to the No. 2 distance medley relay performance (9:39.50) in program history in a runner-up finish at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational…helped the Noles to a fourth-place DMR finish at the ACC Championships on the opening night…qualified sixth for the 800m final at the ACC meet with an indoor PB (1:49.82), then broke it the following day in the final…ran 1:49.31 to claim the first ACC title of his career with the No. 5 time in program history. Outdoor: In his redshirt sophomore season outdoors, Burton eclipsed his previous best 800 time in all six races completed…won his heat in back-to-back meets at Mt. SAC Relays (1:49.15) and Payton Jordan Invitational (1:48.55); the latter marking his first time under 1:49…qualified first for the ACC Championship 800 final (1:48.94) and came back with a silver medal finish (1:48.90)…qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary meet for the second consecutive year and got out of the first round with a PB-matching 1:48.55, but was unable to finish round two.


Indoor: Competed in only the Auburn Invitational and Tyson Invitational before he was shut down due to injury. Outdoor: Saw action in just three meets, opening up with a win in the 800 at the FSU Relays… at the ACC Outdoor Championships he backed up a preliminary round PB (1:49.48) with a fourth-place finish in the final, helping teammate Otniel Teixeira make the winning move…those 15 points in the 800 were instrumental in FSU’s team title…qualified for his first NCAA East Preliminary outdoors and posted a new lifetime-best in the 800 (1:49.40) in the first round.


Indoor: Represented the Noles in four indoor meets, including the ACC Championships, where he advanced to the finals of the 800 on the strength of his indoor PR of 1:51.23…finished eighth in the final for his first conference scoring performance…had a breakthrough 800 at the Razorback Invitational, finishing with then-best 1:52.30 in third place overall after winning his heat. Outdoor: Sat out as a redshirt season, but did run a lifetime-best 1:50.07 at the Seminole Invitational, competing unattached.


Attended Martin County High, competing in cross country and track…three-time 3A state qualifier in the 800, capped by runner-up finish in 2012…set school record in 800 (1:52.83)…cross country team also qualified for state during his senior year…2012 Treasure Coast Scripps Track Athlete of the Year…his father, Richard Burton, pole vaulted in college…strong student who brought 25 dual enrollment hours to FSU…majoring in business…born July 7, 1994.
