FSU’s No. 1 runner in 2018 cross country season was a fixture in the top five throughout the 2019 season…grabbed All-South Region honors for the second consecutive year as teams’ top runner, guiding the Noles back to the NCAA Championships…remained healthy after missing 2019 track seasons with injury.
Cross Country: Finished fourth overall in the season opener at Covered Bridge and followed with a 16th-place finish at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational…recorded a 5-mile personal-best against a stacked field at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (24:26.2) but finished 70th; faster but 47 spots behind his 2018 finish…was a solid 50th at the Under Armour Pre-Nationals, but came home 56th at the ACC Championships…rose up to deliver his best performance at the NCAA South Region meet, placing 15ht in 30:46.4 for All-Region honors to lead the team…was No. 5 finisher in the NCAA season-finale. Indoor: season limited to two meets by injury, competing in the 5000 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the 3000 at the Indiana Relays.
Cross Country: Led the Noles back to the NCAA Championships…won his first two races (Covered Bridge Open and at Boston University) and was awarded with a pair of ACC Performer of the Week honors…was 23rd overall at Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, finishing the five-mile course in 23:58.5…was the runner-up at the UAB Blazer Classic, rallying the Noles to the team victory…placed 11th at his first ACC Championship meet, closing out the 8k at Boston’s Franklin Park in 23:58.5 to become the first FSU freshman to earn All-ACC honors since Jakub Zivec in 2010…finished ninth on the Noles’ home course at the South Region meet, guiding FSU to a runner-up finish and an NCAA Championships berth…one of four Noles to earn All-Region honors…selected to All-ACC Academic and USTFCCCA All-Academic teams. Indoor: redshirted. Outdoor: missed season due to injury.
Cross Country: Sat out the competitive season as a redshirt. Indoor: Got his first taste of collegiate action competing in four meets, including the ACC Championships…debuted by winning the 3000 at the Orange & Purple Invitational (8:24.28)…two weeks later established a new personal-best at that distance while finishing fifth at the Razorback Invitational (8:17.40)…ran 14:25.05 for a personal-best in the 5000 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational…pulled off the 3000-5000 double at the ACC Championships, finishing 17th and 20th, respectively. Outdoor: Redshirted, but competed unattached in the 10,000 at the Penn Relays (31:03.06).
Capped his high school career with a banner senior season, claiming the 2A state title in cross country and following with a sweep of the 1600 and 3200 titles on the track…posted PBs of 8:52.67 – the No. 3 3200 time in Florida high school history – and 4:12.17 in the 1600…unbeaten as a senior in-state, his accolades included Gatorade Florida Boys Cross Country Performer of the Year, Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Cross Country and 2017 TC Sports Male Athlete of the Year…outstanding student at Lincoln Park Academy where he was on the Dean’s List all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club…parents Chris and Jennifer (Drawdy) Pottorff graduated from Florida State…mom was on FSU’s 1994 softball team…majoring in exercise physiology…born Dec. 23, 1998.
