Spring 2020:

Went 2-1 in singles and 7-3 in doubles in the spring…won two singles matches on court six and one on court four…defeated Pierce Gilheany of Louisiana 6-4, 6-3 on court six and  Matthew Johnson of Buffalo 6-4, 6-2 on court four…started the season on a  three-match win streak with Bryn Nahrung…the duo defeated FAU’s Escandell/Lambros 6-2, Florida A&M’s Mbong/Hayden 6-0 and South Alabama’s Delcour/Collard 6-1…went 4-1 with Rana Roop Singh Bhullar…the pair played all of their matches on court three with wins over Tennessee Tech, Buffalo, Bo. 46 Clemson and No. 31 Miami.

Fall 2019:

Finished the fall with a 2-5 singles record and a 6-2 doubles record…only two singles wins of the fall came against Kevin Huynh of Georgia State at the ITA Southeast Regional and Jack Dabek of Navy at the Dick Vitale Invite…won four straight matches at the Bedford Cup with Bryn Nahring to take home the doubles title… on their way to the title, they defeated UNF’s Duarte/Nani 8-7(3), UCF’s Alencar/Rubio 8-3, FAU’s Lambros/Legall 8-4 and UCF’s Pavel/Sokolovskiy 8-4…won one doubles match at the ITA Southeast Regional with an 8-7(3) win over Georgia Southern’s Finklestein/Roumpis…earned one doubles win with Nahrung at the Dick Vitale Invite over Michigan’s Fu/Oosterbann 8-1.

Spring 2019:

Capped off his rookie campaign with a 10-8 singles record and a 9-7 record in doubles… clinched his first career match when he won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 on court four against Texas Tech in the first round of ITA Kick-Off Weekend… helped contribute to the Seminoles NCAA Tournament first-round victory over No. 30 UCF with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court five against Trey Hulderbrand to give the Noles their first point of the match… got ranked as high as 56th in doubles with partner Chase Wood…

Fall 2018:

Capped off his first semester of collegiate tennis with a 5-5 singles record and a 6-3 doubles record…went 2-2 in singles and doubles at the Bedford Cup…made it to the round of 16 at the ITA Southeast Regional, defeating Francisco Bastias of Miami and Phillip Gresk of Georgia Tech…won the Dick Vitale Collegiate Clay Court Invitational Doubles bracket with partner Chase Wood.

Before FSU:

Was the number one u18 tennis player in the continent of Africa from 2016-17…earned a top-80 ITF ranking in the world rankings in 2017…four-time national champion in South Africa…2017 vice-captain of his high school tennis team…came into Florida State with two ATP points and a career-high world ranking of 1441

Personal:

Richard Thongoana was born on July 20, 2000…along with tennis he also was a swimmer as a child…aspires to be a tennis professional after college…son of Richard and Mary Thongoana…majoring in Exercise Physiology.
