Freshman and first-time NCAA Championships qualifier…earned second-team All-American honors at indoor championships with the 11th-fastest time (20.96) in the 200-meter dash prelims…entered meet as the No. 10 seed on the strength of his collegiate debut 20.86 to win the Auburn Invitational on Jan. 17…that time ranks No. 7 in Florida State indoor history for 200 meters…his victory came against LSU’s Aaron Ernest, who is the No. 2 seed overall after winning the SEC title…though he is only competing in the 200, Friday also posted a qualifying-worthy mark in the 60-meter dash (6.60) with his third-place finish – he was the second collegian – at the Rod McCravy Memorial behind winner Trayvon Bromell of Baylor…a late-season injury has limted Friday, who missed three weeks and did not advance from the preliminary rounds of the 200 at the ACC Indoor Championships.

No stranger to success, Friday enjoyed a monster summer of 2014…he won gold medals at the World Junior Championships in July in the 200 and as a member of the Team USA 4×100 relay…his wind-aided (+2.3) 200 win came in a jaw-dropping 20.04…taking the baton from freshman FSU teammate Kendal Williams, he brought it home in 38.70; the No. 3 junior relay time in world history…two weeks earlier, Friday broke the six-year-old U.S. national high school record in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships, blistering the field in 10.00, which is the No. 2 junior time in the world…a false start in the final of the 100 prevented a showdown with world junior record-holder and 2014 NCAA champion, Bromell…he finished the year with the No. 1 world junior ranking in the 200 (20.33)…capped an incredible senior season at Cherryville (N.C.) High by winning state titles in the 100, 200 and 400 as well as the 4×400 relay, leading his squad to the team title…finished career with eight state titles…he followed up by capturing the New Balance Outdoor Nationals 200-meter title, adding it to his collection of New Balance Indoor National Championships – and records – in the 60 and 200…was named Gatorade National Track & Field thlete of the Year…signing with the Seminoles, along with Williams, prompted Track & Field News to tab FSU as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country…born June 5, 1996.
