Senior from Jamaica is poised to build on productive 2019 campaign under coach Dorian Scott…found his stride midway through the outdoor season in the shot put…the four-time NJCAA shot put national champion from Barton (Kan.) Community College expected to contend for a spot at the NCAA Championships both indoors and outdoors.
Indoor: With a fifth-round shot put mark of 18.60 meters (61-0.25) established a new indoor personal-best and secured a second-place finish at the ACC Championships, helping the Noles to their third consecutive team title…his final series of the season included the first two 18-meter marks since 2018 as he moved to No. 6 on FSU’s all-time list…advanced to the finals four times in five meets, including third-place finishes at the Bob Pollock and Alex Wilson Invitationals.
Indoor: Competed in four meets as a first-year Nole and advanced to the shot put finals in three of those…closed out the season by placing sixth at the ACC Championships with a season-best of 17.55m (57-7)…opened the year with a third-place finish at the Orange & Purple Elite (17.25m/56-7.25). Outdoor: Eclipsed 18 meters in the shot put in five of six competitions, advancing to six finals…capped year at NCAA East Preliminary with a throw of 18.38m (60-3.75) to place 17th out of 48…scored in both the shot put and discus at the ACC Championships, placing fifth in the shot and seventh in the discus…unleashed season- and personal-best shot put of 18.95m (62-2.25) to win the Mt. SAC Relays title, where he also placed third in the discus with a season-best of 52-65m (172-9)…finished third in the shot put at the Florida Relays and second at the outdoor-opening FSU Relays.
Spent two seasons at NJCAA powerhouse Barton Community College…established new school records indoors and outdoors in the shot put…capped his career at the 2018 NJCAA National Championships by winning the shot put in a PB of 18.55m (60-10.5), while finishing second in the discus…his 18 points helped deliver Barton the men’s national team title…also registered a new discus PB (53.70m/176-2) to win the Bethel Invitational during his final outdoor season…won the 2018 NJCAA indoor shot put title (18.17m/59-7.5) as Barton finished second in the team standings…established an indoor shot put PB of 18.39m (60-4) at the Dr. Martin Luther King Invitational…as a freshman won the 2017 NJCAA indoor shot put title (17.65m/57-11)…won the outdoor shot put crown with a mark of 17.94m (58-10.25) and finished third in the discus as Barton placed second…in four NJCAA Championship meets Lawrence combined to score 54 points and the Barton men never finished worse than fifth…in addition to his athletic endeavors, he was also inducted in the Phil Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Enjoyed an outstanding high school career competing for Petersfield…finished fourth at 2016 Penn Relays as a senior (19.21m/63-0.25)…also represented Jamaica at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland…was sixth at 2015 Penn Relays in the shot put…placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus at 2015 CARIFTA Games (U20)…was second in the discus at the 2013 CARIFTA Games (U17)…won Jamaican Junior national shot put titles in 2014 and 2016 and was discus silver medalist in ’16 as well…the son of Tracey-Ann Foster…completing degree in sport management at FSU…born March 6, 1997.
