Quotes — USL vs. Florida State

  • Cajundome, Lafayette, La.

    USL Guard Tyrone Foster:
“We didn’t do the little things right to win the game. Frustrated would be a great word to describe the game for us. We just made a few mental mistakes out there and they were able to capitalize on them. Florida State deserved to win the game.”

    USL Center Brett Smith:
“That was the biggest front line I played against. personally, I think the experience from this game is something we can take with us down the road. If we play as hard as we did tonight, we’ll win a lot of games. We have to have the same intensity and effort we did tonight.”

    USL Coach Jessie Evans:
“I think we showed we can play with that type of team. Give Florida State all the credit, they did what they had to do to win the game. They stepped to the free throw line and knocked them down when they had to.”

“I am proud of the effort from our guys. We’ll take a look at this game as a team and improve on it.”

    Florida State Coach Steve Robinson:
“We’re happy to get a win, and we’re glad to be able to survive. Coach Evans’ kids played hard. They scrapped. I said if they play that hard all season long they may win their conference or at least play for the league title.”

(on Cajundome crowd) “They were loud and they were into the game, and we gave them every opportunity to stay in the game. We didn’t play that well. I’m not making excuses. Coach Evans’ kids played hard. It was good for us. This was only our second road game. I think it does nothing but prepare us for our conference schedule. We’re going to play in some hostile environments, and our kids can look back and recall this.”

    USL Coach Jessie Evans (cont.)
“I was really pleased with the effort of our guys. I think Florida State is a top ten program. They’ve got all the bases covered. They played with poise when they had to have poise. I thought Steve did a great job of keeping them under control.”

“To beat a team like Florida State, you’ve got to play for 40 minutes, and I think we strung a few minutes together, but they pounded us on the offensive glass.”

“I’m really excited about my crowd. I just want to get everybody wearing red.”

    USL Center Brett Smith (cont.)
“I just feel like I need to step up. I’m the big man out there. I need to score and grab rebounds for my team. I’m just doing my job.”

(On FSU height inside) “They were tough, but it was fun playing them out there. Their coach gave us a compliment. He said that if we play every game in our conference like we played tonight, we’ll go through and win the conference.”
