CLEMSON, S.C. – Florida State’s Peter Warrick and Jason Whitaker were named ACC Players of the Week for their performances in the Seminoles’ 26-14 victory at Miami this weekend.
Warrick, a junior wide receiver from Bradenton, FL, caught seven passes for 190 yards against the Hurricanes. That total included a 62-yard touchdown reception from Chris Weinke for FSU’s first score. This was Warrick’s sixth 100-yard receiving game at Florida State, the second most yards in his career and the ninth best receiving yardage performance in school history. The effort against Miami put him over 2,000 yards receiving for his career, just the eighth player in FSU history to do so.
Whitaker, a junior offensive guard from Panama City, FL, provided perfect pass protection in the victory with no sacks or pressures allowed. He anchored an offensive line that enabled Weinke to record his first 300-yard passing game, the first Florida State signal caller to throw for 300 yards in the Orange Bowl during the Bobby Bowden era (since 1976). Whitaker played every offensive snap and contributed five intimidations and three cut blocks while grading out at 95% without a penalty.
