Game Notes

Florida State is 7-0-1 against North Carolina in the all-time series…FSU defeated UNC 13-0 last year in a steady rain in Tallahassee, the second straight year the two teams played in the rain…the Tar Heel defense held the Seminole offense to its lowest point total in four years…the game featured the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 rated defenses…it was FSU’s first shutout since a 17-0 blanking of Clemson in ’94…Dexter Jackson blocked two punts while Peter Boulware and Greg Spires combined for five sacks in the game…the Seminoles have held UNC to less than 14 points in four of the last five meetings…the Tar Heels have made five consecutive bowl trips… FSU’s equipment truck caught fire on the way back from Chapel Hill in ’95, burning most of the Seminoles’ uniforms…Tar Heel head coach Mack Brown was a Florida State graduate and played with FSU assistant Billy Sexton in ’73…Brown was a two-year starter at running back for the Seminoles under Larry Jones…Brown has led the Tar Heels to two 10-win seasons in the last four years…UNC returns six senior starters on a defense that ranked No. 1 in overall defense last season…the UNC roster includes seven players from the state of Florida…FSU & UNC placed one-two in seven of the eight major ACC team defensive categories last season…UNC has not lost at home since a 28-12 defeat at the hands of Florida State in ’95…Seminole special teams have totaled four blocked punts and one blocked kick against the Tar Heels in the last two meetings.
