Softball Loses Two on Saturday
Seminoles fall to DePaul and Arizona State.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Florida State women’s softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA. The Lady Seminoles lost in the morning, 5-4, to DePaul and 2-0 to No. 18 Arizona State.
In the first game of the day, the Blue Demons scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to upset the No. 21-ranked Lady Seminoles. Senior Danielle Cox led the Tribe with two hits and one run scored. Freshman Leslie Malerich got the loss for the Lady Seminoles, giving up five runs, four earned, on five hits in six innings. The Lady Seminoles jumped out to a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, before the Blue Demons rallied to win.
The loss forced the Lady Seminoles into the silver bracket of the tournament. They entered the afternoon play as the No. 4 seed in that bracket and faced Arizona State University.
The Sun Devils scored a run in the first and second inning and ASU pitcher Kirsten Voak threw a shutout as the No. 18-ranked Sun Devils beat FSU 2-0. FSU pitcher Jennifer White gave up two runs on five hits in the loss. Cox and Christy Cerecedes each grabbed a pair of hits for the Tribe. ASU designated hitter Erica Beach hit her first career homerun and ended the day with two hits for the Sun Devils.
The loss forced the Tribe into the loser’s bracket game on Sunday morning versus Colorado State University.
