Volleyball Drops Match To UT-Arlington

Lady Seminoles fall in first round of Invitational.

DEKALB, Ill. — The Florida State volleyball team fell to 2-3 on

the young season with a four-game loss to Texas Arlington this evening

at the Northern Illinois Invitational. The Tribe took the first game

15-10, but dropped the next three by scores of 7-15, 13-15, 16-18.

Junior Jennifer Werrick recorded a career-high 27 kills to lead

all players and added a team-high 17 digs. Senior Aisha Thornton had 22

kills and led the squad with six blocks. In her first match of the

season since returning from playing with the US Junior National Team,

sophomore Norisha Campbell tallied 19 kills on her way to an impressive

.371 hitting performance. Florida State outhit UTA, .238 to .225 and

outblocked the Mavericks, 26-20.

“Individually, we had some nice performances,” FSU Head Coach

Cecile Reynaud said. “Jennifer (Werrick) played well and Norisha

(Campbell) showed some nice things in her first match back. We were in

it (the match) til the end, but we just couldn’t put it away.”

The Lady Seminoles will face Santa Clara at 11 a.m., tomorrow

and host Northern Illinois in an evening match at 7 p.m.
