Steven McCartney enters his sixth season as the assistant sports information director for the baseball and football programs at Florida State. In that time, the Seminoles have played in four NCAA baseball tournaments, the 2016 Orange Bowl, 2017 Independence Bowl and 2019 Sun Bowl.

McCartney oversaw media opportunities for the Seminoles as the baseball team won the 2017 and 2018 ACC Championship and reached the 2017 and 2019 College World Series. In 2019, the eyes of the college baseball world were on head coach Mike Martin, the winningest coach in college baseball history, as he led the Seminoles to the College World Series during his 40th and final season. McCartney also worked with Mat Nelson, the 2021 Perfect Game Player of the Year, and Parker Messick, the ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in 2021.

McCartney started his time in the FSU media relations department as an intern while earning his Master’s in sport management in 2014. From 2014-16, McCartney worked with the men’s and women’s tennis teams, with both programs reaching the NCAA Tournament. He is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

A native of Tallahassee, McCartney graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2011. He is married to Ashley and they have one child, daughter Mila.
