Striders Come Out on Top

Tallahassee – The Florida State Striders captured their first meet title of the season as they finished in first place at the Flrunners.com Invitational on Friday, September 30 in Dade City, FL. Sophomore Audrey Hand (Virginia Beach, VA/ Kellam) finished the race in eighth place with a time of 19:26.90 and helped lead the team to a 66-point victory. Florida State’s next closest competition came from West Florida who finished in second with 94 points.

Sophomore Julia Vola (Boca Raton, FL/ Spanish River) was the next Seminole to finish as she took 18th place in 20:03.10. Right behind Vola, was sophomore Shannon Coates (Delray Beach, FL/ Spanish River) who finished in 19th place with a time of 20:03.36. Freshman Sara Hughes (Maitland, FL/ Winter Park) was the fourth Seminole to finish as she crossed the tape in 23rd place with a time of 20:12.75. Rounding out Florida State’s top five was sophomore Tina Biedenharn (Orange Park, FL/ Ridgeview) who took 27th place in 20:15.88.

Sophomore Chris Nickinson (Pensacola, FL/ Ridgeview) also made the trip down to Dade City with the Striders to run in the collegiate men’s 8K. Nickinson finished in second place with a time of 25:08.1.

The Striders next competition will be on Saturday, October 3, in Orlando, FL at the Disney Invitational. The men’s and women’s varsity squads will return to action on Saturday, October 15, at the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, IN.
