TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Members of the Florida State’s women’s golf team have been active and successful around the world during the month of June. Junior Alex Milan is playing in the British Ladies Amateur Championship, junior Laure Castelain is playing in the World University Golf Championships and All-American Matilda Castren has already won two tournament titles since the conclusion of the NCAA Championships in May.

Milan To Play In British Ladies Amateur Championship
Florida State junior Alex Milan will play in the 2014 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship beginning June 24. The event will be played at the Royal St George’s Golf Club. Milan is competing for the championship as one of 144 of the world’s best women’s amateur golfers. Practice rounds were scheduled for June 22 and 23, with 36 holes of stroke play on June 24 and 25. The top 64 players will then complete in match play to determine the champion on Saturday 28th June.

The Royal St George’s Golf Club located in Sandwich, Kent, England and is one of the premier golf clubs in the United Kingdom.

Castren Victorious In Two Early Season Summer Events
Florida State freshman Matilda Castren, who earned All-America Second Team honors by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association and GolfWeek, was victorious in her first two events of the summer. She earned back-to-back wins on the World Amateur Golf Rankings Tour at the Audi Finnish Opening tournament and at the Audi Finnish Tour Nordcenter GCC.

Castren finished with a 2 over par score of 218 to win the Audi Finnish championship. She carded scores of 1 under par 71 in the first round and second rounds and a 4 over par 76 in the third and final round. She carded an eagle in the first round and five birdies in the second round to earn the victory.

A week later, Castren posted a 5 over par score of 221 to win the Audi Finnish Tour event hosted by the Nordcenter Golf and Country Club. She finished the second round of play with a 1 under par score of 71 and won the championship by two strokes.

Both tournaments were stroke play events and have vaulted her into the top 25 on the Women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings. She is ranked 25th in the WAGR as of June 23 and is the highest ranked player from Finland in the rankings.

Castelain Plays In World University Golf Championships
Florida State junior Laure Castelain is playing in the 15th Annual World University Golf Championships Switzerland. She is one of 144 players from 24 countries (including the United States) who are participating in the championship that will be held on the Severiano Ballesteros course of the Golf-Club Crans sur Sierre.
