Sunday’s Football Practice Report

Nov. 7, 2004

The No. 11 Florida State Seminoles (7-2, 5-2 ACC) held a 12-period practice Sunday night as they began preparations for Thursday’s game at NC State (4-5, 3-4 ACC). Usually, the team takes Sunday off and returns to the field Monday evening but the coaching staff changed the schedule due to the short week. FSU will practice again Monday and Tuesday afternoon, and then hold a practice Wednesday before departing for Raleigh that evening. The game at NC State Thursday will be nationally televised by ESPN at 7:30 p.m. Tailback Leon Washington, who leads the ACC in rushing yards per game (98.4), is expected to return to the starting lineup after missing two games with a shoulder injury.

Bobby Bowden QUOTES

(on practice)

“Well, we practiced tonight like we normally do on a Monday. We went over the kicking game and we got into looking at their defenses and their plays. We are giving the kids a taste of it. Tomorrow we will have a regular practice instead of a night practice.”

(on the injuries)

“We are doing better. We should have Leon (Washington) back. Jerome (Carter) is kind of day-to-day with a shoulder I think. It is one of those things that we will go slow with.”

QB Wyatt Sexton

(on starting fast)

“I think this is going to be a battle of two great defenses. We are going to do our best job to protect the football and not put their offense in an easy situation to score points. They have a great front seven and its going to be a struggle out there. We are going to have to be focused and mentally prepared. We are going to have to not make any mistakes mentally and execute and hopefully slip a few past them.”

(on difference in playing at home and on the road)

“I think the difference is the fact that we fly up there, we are in the hotel all day and we are not in a comfortable setting. We just feel a little out of place on the road for some reason. Hopefully we can get rid of that this week.”
