TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Florida State men’s tennis player Maciek Sykut earned his first career Challenger Title this past weekend at the Club Premium Open ATP Challenger in Quito, Ecuador. Earning his seventh title of the year, six Futures and one Challenger, Sykut earned his highest ranking ever at No. 198 on the ATP World Tour in doubles.
Sykut and partner Juan Sebastian Gomez (Colombia) earned 80 ATP points in winning the tournament. The duo defeated five players ranked inside of the top 200 including No. 61 Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.
“I had a lot of confidence built up from my results leading up to the Challenger,” said Sykut. “Despite never previously pairing up with Juan, I felt good about our chances. I didn’t predict us to win the whole thing, but we played really well this week and found a way. I’m thrilled as this was my first ATP Challenger Tour title and it’s a special one to me. Go Noles!”
The duo won the finals match 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 over Andre Begemann (Germany) and Izak Van der Merwe (South Africa).
