Teeing Off With Seminole Men’s Golfer Matt Savage

Junior golfer Matt Savage is an All-America candidate who will look to lead the Seminoles back to the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive season in 2007. He earned All-America Honorable Mention, All-Southeast Regional All-American and All-ACC honors as one of the nation’s top golfers in 2007. Savage finished in a tie for ninth at the 2007 NCAA Championship at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. — his finish marked the highest individual finish for a Seminole since Andy Purnell finished sixth at the NCAA’s in 1990. Savage, who earned 11 top-25 finishes in his 12 events as a sophomore, sat sown with in between rounds of the Inverness Intercollegiate.

What is your favorite FSU Tradition?
My favorite tradition is doing the chop- anywhere- at the football games especially.

If you could choose any other sport to play (other than golf) what would it be?

If I weren’t a golfer I would like to be playing baseball. I think I could be a pretty good shortstop or second basemen.

What is your favorite late night snack?

My favorite late night snack is a frosty from Wendy’s

What CD or Music Artist is your favorite right now?

I am a huge country music fan and Pat Green is my favorite artist. I also like listening to Chris Cagel and Kenny Chesney – they are awesome singers also. I’m not a huge NASCAR fan but I’ve recently gotten into it. I really enjoy watching it when I get the chance. I watch it with Cameron Knight and I like to see Dale Jr. do well.

When you are not on the golf course, what could we catch you doing?

I don’t like to admit this but I like sitting around and being lazy. Everyone needs to do that every now and then.

Cold Stone Ice Cream or Dairy Queen?
I’d go to Dairy Queen- all day long if I could. I love Oreo Blizzards – WOW.

What is the greatest movie you have ever seen?
The greatest movie I have ever seen is Tin Cup starring Kevin Costner.

Who do you idolize in golf?
I idolize Tiger Woods and would someday like to play even a little bit as well as he does.

What is the one thing you miss most about home?
The one thing I miss the most is my family – my mom and dad and my sister Lyndsay.

Are you a Top Chef or a Disaster in the kitchen?
I am a disaster — big time.

Have you ever been to a theme park? If so, which one is your favorite?
I love going to theme parks. The Dragster ride at Cedar Point Amusement Park is the best ride I have ever been on.

Q What is your fantasy car?
The car I would love to have is a Ford F-150 4 door, black – WOW.

Movie Theaters, Bowling Alley, or Miniature Golf?
I would say I spend more time in a movie theater among those three places. The most recent movie I saw was Superbad. All of the guys on the team went and saw it and I’m sure we will all go back and see it together.

Early Bird or Late Riser?
That depends on the day… I sleep late when I have the chance.

Where is your favorite golf course? Why is it your favorite?
My favorite course is The Olympic Club in San Francisco. It has the coolest atmosphere of any golf course I’ve ever been to. I remember watching the US Open with Lee Janzen beat Payne Stewart. It was really neat playing on the same course and hitting the same shots those two guys hit when I had the chance to play the course.

What is your favorite meal?
I enjoy steak, mashed potatoes and vitamin water as my favorite meal.

Do you have a pet?
Riley is my dog who lives with my family at home in Louisville. He is a mutt – but mostly black lab. We have had him for about a year.
