The Florida State women’s tennis team travels up to Greenville, S.C. for the Furman Classic at the Mickel Tennis Center on Friday for the first competition of the 2016 fall season. The three-day competition features eight teams from the Atlantic Coast and Southeastern conferences, as well the host school, 2016 SoCon champion Furman. Florida State will join North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Clemson, Tennessee and the Paladins. Doubles play will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday. Junior Gabby Castaneda and sophomore Julia Mikulski will battle Furman’s Ansley Speaks and Katty Weymouth, while freshman Nandini Das and sophomore Ariana Rahmanparast will take on Clemson’s Danni Ruiz and Constanza Gorches.
Senior Dany Schippers and freshman Andrea Fernandez Garcia will face Mississippi State’s Anatasia Rentouli and Sara Lizariturry. All three matches begin at 9:00 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m., Mikulski will take on Furman’s Weymouth in singles play. Garcia will take on Tennessee’s Ariadna Ridley, and Schippers will face off with Ally Miller-Krasilnikov of Clemson.
Following those matches, Rahmanparast will compete against Johanna Silva of Tennessee at 12:30 p.m.
To round out the day, Castaneda will take on Jasmin Lee of Mississippi State and Das will face Furman’s Rentouli. Both of those matches will start at 1 p.m.
Saturday competition will begin with doubles play at 9:00 a.m.
