TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Seminole women’s tennis players from the 1960’s all the way to the 2000’s came back to Tallahassee last weekend for their alumni weekend and had a memorable experience.
“The reunion was a blast,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde, a former Seminole tennis player. “It’s always great to get Seminoles back in town, especially on a football weekend, and the football game victory certainly adds to it. We had all generations come back and I think it’s great for our current team to see the people that laid the foundation for what is now Seminole tennis and I think a good time was had by all.”
The former athletes hit the courts on Friday night and played with the current players in a round-robin tennis tournament, followed by the football game against Clemson on Satuday.
“We had a nice round-robin tennis tournament Friday night and a nice tailgate on Saturday, and it was really exciting for so many faces to come back that are close to the program now and ones that we haven’t seen in years. All in all it was a very successful weekend; we look forward to having another reunion weekend down the road and hopefully even doubling the numbers that we had.”
While the weekend was a blast for the former players to come back to their alma mater and enjoy a beautiful Tallahassee fall weekend, it was just as fun for the current players who got to meet the women who have paved the path for Seminole tennis to be where it is today.
“I think the girls had a great time meeting the alumni,” said Hyde. “I know that the alumni commented on what wonderful girls that we have, how engaging they were, how involved they were and how excited that they were in regards to the weekend. It’s just good for all sides I think to be a part of the tradition of women’s tennis here and I think it was a good time had by all.”
