TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (2-1) hosts the first home matches of the dual match season on Friday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, a doubleheader against the North Florida Ospreys (2-1) and the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (1-0).
“We’re excited to be playing at home,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said.
“We’ve been gone the whole month of January so I know we’re excited to play on our home courts and get our home crowds here for us against two very good teams.”
The doubleheader begins at 10:00 a.m. against North Florida and continues at 2:00 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast.
The match marks the tenth meeting all-time with the Ospreys, the last being a 4-1 Seminole victory in Jacksonville last season. The only all-time meeting with FGCU was a 4-0 victory in Tallahassee in 2015.
“I’m really excited to be home this weekend,” junior Gabriella Castaneda said. “We’ve had some great away games and its finally time to play some home matches and be supported by our home crowd. We’ve been having some great practices the past couple of weeks leading up to tomorrow with some amazing momentum.”
The Seminoles enter the matches with a 2-1 overall record after returning from the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, where they defeated Harvard and fell to No. 7 Ohio State.
“It’s another opportunity for us to get better,” Hyde said. “We want to take full advantage of being at home- we’re excited. We can’t wait for Friday to get here.”
This will also be the Seminoles’ Paint-It-Pink match. Pink t-shirts will be on sale all day for $10, with proceeds benefitting the Sharon Ewing Breast Health Center at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.
As always, admission is free inside the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
