Three Named to Athlon Sports Preseason All-America Team

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – For the 11th consecutive year, multiple Seminoles were selected to the Men’s Golf All-ACC Team as redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar and redshirt junior Harry Ellis were both recognized by the conference on Thursday morning.

Del Solar earns his second All-ACC Team honor while Ellis enjoys his first. The two members of Florida State Men’s Golf were two of 15 golfers honored on the All-ACC Team. Del Solar becomes the ninth Seminole to receive multiple All-ACC Team selections.

The Chile native has been FSU’s most consistent golfer all year, leading the Seminoles in scoring average (70.58), average vs. par (-0.17), par 4 scoring (4.05) and par 5 scoring (4.63).

The U.S. Open hopeful, who will participate in his 36-hole sectional qualifier on June 5, is ranked 48th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. In eight tournaments played this year, he has five Top 10 finishes includes his first win at the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate on April 9, shooting 10-under in Kannapolis, N.C.

As an All-ACC Team member last year, Del Solar has improved even more by lowering his score by over a stroke (71.70 to 70.58). In 24 rounds played this year he has eight rounds recorded in the 60s, whereas he had seven in the 60s in 33 rounds played last year.

The career year of Ellis has been the biggest boon for Florida State this year. The native of England and team captain is posting career bests in everything, including average score (71.53), average vs, par (0.56), par or better rounds (18), finish percentage (76.5 percent), low round (65) and tournaments played (11).

Ellis qualified for the Arnold Palmer Cup, where he will represent Europe in the annual Ryder-Cup style competition June 9-11 at Atlanta Athletic Club. For FSU, he has earned two Top-5 finishes including a runner-up spot at the Seminole Intercollegiate where he shot 13-under.

Ellis also tied for fifth at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate on Oct. 4, 2016, shooting 2-under. He leads the Seminoles in both par 3 scoring (3.08) and birdies (106).
