Three Seminole Divers Qualify For NCAA Championships

The Florida State men’s and women’s diving team qualified three divers for the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships following the NCAA Zone meet in Lexington, Ky. Saturday night. Sophomore Chelsie Lerew and freshman Tiffany Manning will compete at the women’s national championship, while freshman Louie Gagnet will dive at the men’s national championship.

Lerew, the 2002 ACC Most Valuable Diver, qualified after placing third on the three meter with a score of 519.35. Manning took fourth place on the platform with a score of 389.45 to qualify. Lerew will compete on both the one and three meter at the NCAA’s, while Manning will compete on the platform as well as both springboards. The duo will join senior swimmers Christy Cech and Candice Nethercott and sophomore Emma Dutton to represent the Lady Seminoles at the NCAA championship on March 20-22 in Austin, Texas.

Gagnet qualified for the men’s NCAA’s after he placed seventh on the three meter with a score of 530.80. He will join junior swimmer Justin Betts at the men’s NCAA championship on March 27-29 in Athens, Ga. and will compete in all three events.
