Three Seminoles Earn All-ACC Awards

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball’s Morgan Jones (All-ACC First Team), O’Mariah Gordon (Freshman Team) and Makayla Timpson (Freshman Team) earned All-ACC honors on Tuesday morning as the league’s 2021-22 awards were announced on Packer and Durham.

Jones, a senior from Jonesboro, Ga., earned All-ACC First Team honors from the league’s 15 head coaches. She joins Seminole legends Natasha Howard (2013, 2014), Shakayla Thomas (2016-18) and Kiah Gillespie (2019, 2020) in receiving multiple first team honors from the ACC – just the fourth player in program history to achieve the feat. Jones was named a first-teamer last year as well.

Gordon and Timpson became the 12th and 13th players in program history to earn All-ACC Freshman Team honors. It marks the first time that FSU has produced multiple All-ACC Freshman performers in the same season.

All three players were instrumental in helping the Seminoles to their seventh consecutive season of reaching double-digit ACC wins based on a full conference schedule. Florida State finished 7-3 down the stretch of the regular season with NET Top 50 wins over Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Boston College.

Overall, Jones’ repeated first team bid marks the 32nd time a Seminole has achieved first-team accolades. She was selected to the second team on the ACC’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Jones finishes the regular season as FSU’s leader in scoring (14.5), rebounding (5.9), field goals made (145), free throws made (102) and attempted (133), steals (30) as well as co-leading in blocked shots (29).

Among her ACC counterparts, Jones ranks in the Top 10 in scoring (eighth), field goal percentage (fifth), free throw percentage (ninth), blocked shots (T10th) and defensive rebounding (10th).

Coming to FSU as the state of Florida’s reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, Gordon has backed up her hype with strong play as a freshman. She is averaging 7.1 points, 2.9 assists and shooting 45.9 percent from the floor. The Bradenton, Fla., native is the first true freshman starting point guard at FSU since Courtney Ward in the 2007-08 season.

Timpson has also had a strong first season with the Seminoles. Hailing from Edison, Ga., Timpson has proven to be a dominant force in the post. The athletic forward averages 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, shoots 62 percent from the floor and picks up 1.04 blocked shots per game.

Gordon and Timpson were the only set of teammates to make this year’s All-ACC Freshman Team.
