Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State seniors Daneika Borthwick and Yukako Noi, along with sophomore Gabriella Castaneda, finished the 2016 season ranked when the ITA released its final polls of the season Wednesday.
Borthwick finished ranked No. 42 in the singles poll after reaching the NCAA Individual Championships last month in Tulsa. The Cumbria, England, native was the top player for the Seminoles the past four seasons and was just the third FSU player to be named All-ACC four times. In her final season in Tallahassee, Borthwick won 10 matches against ranked players and won 15 consecutive sets to close the regular season.
Castaneda and Noi are No. 51 in doubles action. Beginning with the Wake Forest match on April 10, the pair played the final six matches together, compiling a 5-1 record and two wins over ranked teams, No. 45 Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko of Wake and No. 16 Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelley of Virginia in the ACC Tournament.
This is the second season that Castaneda has ranked in final ITA doubles poll after finishing No. 53 in 2015 with former Seminole Emily Fanning. Borthwick has ranked in the final poll four times now following singles in 2015 (90) and 2013 (60) and doubles in 2014 (32). Noi was ranked No. 110 singles in the final 2014 poll as a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth.
As a team, the Seminoles ended the year ranked No. 63 after a 14-13 campaign.
