TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A trio of FSU women’s tennis players will be representing their respective countries at the 2013 Fed Cup in Santa Tecla, El Salvador from July 16-20. The Americas Group 2 tournament will be played on the clay surface of the Maya Country Club.
Rising junior Kerrie Cartwright will represent the Bahamas for the fifth time in her career at the event. The Nassau native played in her first Fed Cup in 2008 and has an overall record of 7-5 in singles and 4-3 in doubles.
Cartwright’s best performance at the tournament came in 2011, when she posted a 4-1 showing in singles, helping the Bahamas to a 4-1 record and a promotion to the Americas Group 1 for 2012.
Representing the Dominican Republic for the fifth time will be former Seminole Francesca Segarelli. Segarelli is 10-11 overall in Fed Cup play since her first appearance in 2005, with a 9-5 singles showing.
Former Seminole Carolina De los Santos will be representing Uruguay for the second time in her career at the event. The Montevideo native played in 2011 Fed Cup, posting records of 4-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles, helping her country to a 3-2 overall record in pool play.
“Playing in the Fed Cup is always one of my favorite time,” De los Santos said. “It’s one of the biggest events to play, and representing Uruguay means a lot to me. Playing for something bigger that myself gives me more motivation to compete. The feeling is great, and I couldn’t be happier to be here.”
The twelve countries in the group will be divided into two pools, with a round-robin style of play within each bracket. Winners of both brackets will earn a promotion to play in the Americas Group 1 for 2014.
