Tons Of Fun At JoAnne Graf Field This Spring

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As exciting as the action will be on JoAnne Graf Field for No. 3 Florida State softball this spring, there will also be a long list of fun events off the field and throughout the Seminole Softball Complex for all home games during the 2017 season.

There will also be numerous events for current and prospective members of the Dugout Club, the booster organization for FSU softball. The first Dugout Club event will be on February 9 for the Third Annual Preseason Dinner. This year’s event will be held in Miller Hall on the third floor of University Center C beginning at 6:00 p.m. Reserved tickets at a table with a player or coach are available for $50, while general admission seats can be purchased for $25. As for the game day promotions, the season-opening Unconquered Invitational on February 10-12 against Lipscomb, Furman and Marshall will be our Camp Reunion weekend, as players that have attended Lonni Alameda Softball Camps are invited back to help us celebrate the start of a new year. There will also be a poster signing following the final FSU game on Friday.

For our midweek game against Florida A&M on February 15, we’ll be “Wishin’ it was Summer”, and fans will be encouraged to dress up in their best beach wear and prizes will be given to the best costumes in attendance.

Northwestern, Nebraska and Pitt come to Tallahassee for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on February 17-19 and it will be our Loyalty Card Weekend. While FSU will play in four games over the three days, there will be four other games involving the other three teams. Fans will be eligible for different prizes based on how many other non-FSU games they attend throughout the weekend.

The February 21 matchup against South Alabama will be our Dance Marathon Night. Dance Marathon at Florida State University is a fundraiser for the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and FSU College of Medicine where over 1,800 students stay awake and dance for 40 hours. This year’s event will take place from February 24-26, and our game will help promote the overall event and we’ll hold mini marathons during inning breaks for fans.

As we enter our ACC schedule, each Friday night game against conference opponents will be one of our “For the Heroes” Friday as we honor different groups throughout the community such as firefighters, EMTs, police officers, active and veteran military members, among many others.

The first Saturday on the ACC schedule, March 4, will be our Alumni Day, as we welcome back players throughout the history of the FSU softball program. We will also be honoring former student-athlete Jessica van der Linden as we will be retiring her jersey on the left field wall. Van der Linden became the first FSU player to be named USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year and was inducted in the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014. She still holds the FSU career record with 50 doubles, and sits second with 161 RBI and third with a .361 career batting average. Van der Linden also finished with a 76-22 record in the circle with a 1.24 ERA and 899 strikeouts.

The Saturdays of our series against Notre Dame (March 18) and Pitt (April 1) will be 70’s Night and 90’s Night respectively, while the final Saturday game of the season on April 29 will be Youth Softball Day as we take on North Carolina. The midweek doubleheader against North Florida on March 8 will be 80s Night. With all of our “decade nights”, we will be playing music exclusively from that decade and fans are encouraged to dress up and join in the fun.

Our four Sunday games against ACC opponents will each be used to celebrate one of the classes on the roster. March 5 against Georgia Tech will be Freshman Day, while the sophomores will be showcased on March 19 against Notre Dame and the junior class on April 2 against Pitt. The five-member senior class of Sydney Broderick, Jessica Burroughs, Ellie Cooper, Lauren Harris and Alex Powers will be celebrated on April 30.

The final home game of the regular season will be on May 3 as the Noles continue the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown and welcome Florida in the annual series with the Gators. We will be holding a “Garnet Out” on that day, so fans are encouraged to drown out the orange and blue with a sea of Garnet as they come out and “Pack The Plex” to help close out the regular season.

Additional promotions will be communicated on social media and listed on our schedule on Seminoles.com throughout the season.
