ATLANTA, Ga. – Day two of the ITA Southeast Regional finished with junior Carla Touly advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw.
The Garnet and Gold began the day with doubles as senior Ana Oparenovic and freshman Petra Hule fell in the round of 16 to Perez-Somarriba/Ito of Miami 8-5. The Seminole duo of senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Nandini Das lost as well losing 8-2 to Jones/Said. Senior Julia Mikulski and junior Andrea Garcia rounded out doubles play with a loss as well losing 8-2 to Marzal/Madcur of Miami.
Singles play got started with the biggest win of the day for the Seminoles as Touly dominated her round of 16 match and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ana Dominguez of USF. This win will be good enough to qualify her for the Fall Championships in November. Mikulski and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas were not as fortunate as they both lost their round of 16 matches.
In the consolation singles bracket, the Seminoles picked up a few more wins as Oparenovic advanced to the quarterfinals after a bye and a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vanja Klaric of USF. Das won her first round match 6-0, 7-5 but could not keep it up as she lost in the next round 6-3, 6-2 to Lucia Marzal of Miami. Rahmanparast advanced to the quarterfinals after her opponent withdrew.
Play will continue tomorrow with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals, followed by the doubles semifinals and consolation matches.
The doubles the singles champions will earn an automatic bid into the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz. held Nov. 7-11.
