TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Track and Field team will be spending the weekend split between two meets, the Tom Jones Invite at Florida and the Virginia Challenge at Virginia. Both take place on April 16 and 17.
Tom Jones Invite
The majority of the squad will be returning to the University of Florida campus for the Tom Jones Invite at the Percy Beard Track in James G. Pressly Stadium. With schools like Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, Miami, Louisville, Georgia, and NC State attending, this weekend’s meet will be strong competition for the Seminoles from top to bottom.
There will be some familiar faces this weekend competing in their first outdoor competition, all of whom are coming off spectacular indoor performances. Among that group is Jeremiah Davis (long jump), Maudie Skyring (1500m & 800m) and Ruta Lasmane (triple jump & long jump).
Friday events begin a 2:00 p.m. with men’s discus. Track action starts at 6:00 p.m. with the women’s 1500-meter run. Saturday starts off with the women’s hammer throw at 10:00 a.m. FSU moves to the track at 12:00 p.m. with the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Florida State’s distance squad will be traveling to Charlottesville, Virginia to compete against the top runners on the east coast. The meet will feature competitors from more than 50 schools with multiple nationally-ranked teams.
ACC schools expected to participate at Virginia this weekend include Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
FSU’s distance runners will see most of their competition at Virginia on day one, starting at 3:20 p.m. with Alyson Churchill and Rebecca Clark making their outdoor season debut in the 1500m. Friday will conclude at 9:45 p.m. where we will see the return of Adriaan Wildschutt as he is set to compete in his first 10,000m race of the outdoor season.
