TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Two more preseason polls, two more top 10 rankings. With opening day less than three weeks away, the Florida State Baseball team finds themselves ranked among the nation’s best and sit as a consensus preseason top 10 team.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Rivals.com rank Florida State No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, as the Seminoles open the 2010 season on Friday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. in Tallahassee against Georgia State.
FSU returns 17 letterwinners from last year’s squad that exceeded expectations serving as host to both the Regional and Super Regional rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Of this year’s returning student-athletes, the Seminoles welcome back seven position starters and eight pitchers including all three arms from last year’s weekend rotation.
In a vote of the 12 head coaches in the ACC, the Garnet and Gold were picked to finish atop the league’s Atlantic Division for the fourth time in five years.
Earlier this year, Florida State earned its first top 10 ranking of the preseason sitting at No. 7 by Collegiate Baseball. The Seminoles are ranked as high as No. 5 by USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. Baseball America has FSU ranked at No. 9 in their preseason top 25.
