Tulsa, Okla. – Sophomores Alex Knaff and Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar started play in the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying on Saturday. Bhullar went 2-0, while Knaff lost his only match after a bye.

“It was a good day for Rana,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “He is in a draw with a lot of good tennis players. He started slow but was able to come back and win seven straight games. He was patient and will play better the longer the weekend goes.”

Bhullar opened his day against Andre Russo of UT Arlington. Bhullar started off slow, down 3-2 in the first set. He won seven straight games to take the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-2.

“I got out to a rough start,” said Bhullar. “It was the first time I had played in a while, but once I got warmed up I felt confident.”

Bhullar won his second match of the day as well. He defeated Mason Dragos of Butler, 6-1, 6-4.

“It was a good match,” said Bhullar. “It was tough conditions with a lot of wind, but I was able to finish strong.”

Knaff took on Luke Hammond of Oklahoma State. Knaff fell behind early and could not make up ground falling, 6-3, 7-5.

Bhullar will need to win two matches tomorrow to move on to qualifying. Knaff will have one consolation match.
