Ty Braswell Medical Benefit Recap

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team, along with the Laurel Oaks Country Club held a benefit on Wednesday, September 21 in Sarasota, Fla., where the Ty Braswell Medical Benefit Round Robin raised money for former student-athlete and assistant coach Ty Braswell who was hospitalized this summer.

“The evening was a lot of fun,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We connected with a lot of former players and Florida State supporters. It was a great opportunity for our guys to help out a former player and to give back to the community.”

“Our family was just overwhelmed by the way that Dwayne and Nick (Crowell) put this together,” said Braswell. “Getting all of this involved and getting the community rallying around this was amazing. The club members had a blast playing with the team. I was really impressed with how the guys handled themselves professionally and made it fun for members.”

The team was able to raise just under $5,000 for the benefit at the round robin. Not only was this a great opportunity for Braswell, but it also showed the team the importance of community service.

“The benefit was such a great opportunity for our team to be able to give back to the community,” said senior Jason Zafiros. “We are used to everything given to us and it felt so great to do something for someone else. It was even more special because it was for a man who that has given so much to our team. Ty is a model of what Florida State athletics is all about and we hope he gets better soon.”
