TAVARES, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State beach volleyball team picked off two opponents on Saturday, defeating Houston Baptist and Jacksonville in the second day of the Hickory Point Lake Bash hosted by Stetson.
Another change in lineups saw the redshirt senior duo of Katie Horton and Hailey Luke take over the No. 1 position, while the top of the lineup saw new additions in Nikki Esposito and Alaina Chacon. The solid duo of Molly McBain and Madison Fitzpatrick held down the first round of play, picking up two more wins at the No. 5 position.
The Seminoles put up a 4-1 win over the Huskies in the beginning of the day, earning straight-set victories on courts 2-5 to go up 4-0 on Houston Baptist. The Huskies came back to force a third set and take the match at No. 1 to earn the only point FSU surrendered on Saturday.
FSU finished the day with a match against Jacksonville, where the team swept the Dolphins across the board and held them to single digits in five of the 12 sets played. It marks the sixth shutout for the Seminoles of the season, and the second sweep over JU in the series between the two programs.
The Seminoles will stay in Florida and will have a break in their schedule with no dual matches in the next week. The team will host a Garnet and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, March 24 at noon at the FSU Sand Volleyball Courts before heading back on the road the following weekend.
