CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 24 Florida State men’s tennis team (15-7, 3-3) dropped to No. 4 Virginia (14-2, 6-0) 6-1 at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club Saturday afternoon. The Seminoles return home next weekend for their final home matches of the year.

“We lost to one of the best teams in the country today,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “They are very tough to beat up here especially in the indoor courts. They really showed why they are the National Indoor Champions. I was pleased with the effort we got, especially Jake Albo who got a ranked win.”

The Cavaliers won on courts one and two to take the doubles point. Although sophomore Michael Rinaldi and freshman Grayson Goldin were winning against Justin and Ryan Shane on court three, play was stopped to begin singles play.

The Seminoles lost five of the six first sets with Virginia winning the first three matches to clinch the match. No. 112 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski topped sophomore Michael Rinaldi 6-1, 6-1 then No. 24 Alex Domijan defeated No. 65 Cristian Gonzalez Mendez 6-3, 6-2. The Cavaliers clinched when No. 4 Mitchell Frank won 6-1, 6-4 over No. 101 Dominic Cotrone.

Florida State got on the scoreboard after freshman Jake Albo defeated No. 106 Luca Corinteli 6-4, 6-3 on court six for his first ranked win as a Seminole.

Virginia won the last two matches to make the final score 6-1. No. 40 Ryan Shane topped Blake Davis 6-0, 6-4 while No. 59 Mac Styslinger defeated Marco Nunez 6-2, 7-5.
