TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Volleyball Head Coach Chris Poole has announced the Seminoles’ 29-match regular-season schedule, which includes nearly half of its matches against NCAA Tournament opponents from a season ago.
Florida State’s 18-match grind in the Atlantic Coast Conference features a home match vs. reigning national semifinalist Louisville on Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. Other home matches vs. NCAA Tournament teams in the conference from 2021 include Oct. 5 vs. Miami, Nov. 6 vs. Georgia Tech and Nov. 18 vs. North Carolina.
The conference home opener comes against Notre Dame on Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
Overall, 13 of FSU’s 29 matches in its entire schedule come against postseason opponents.
“We have almost completely changed our roster over the last two years. There’s a lot of young players from last year and a combination of youth and transfers coming in this fall,” Poole said. “Overall, we will still be considered a young team, but have a lot of potential this season.
The non-conference portion is highlighted by the Seminole Volleyball Invitational held Aug. 31-Sept. 3 inside Tully Gym.
Florida State’s non-conference slate includes 11 matches total, with five opponents in Florida, Creighton, Dayton, Illinois State and Florida A&M having made the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
“The schedule was made to challenge the team in non-conference matches and play teams out of a lot of different conferences. I believe that the early matches can help prepare us for the ACC, which was rated the number one conference in the country last fall, including two teams in the Final Four. We are excited to get all the players here working out and prepare ourselves for the challenge.”
The Seminole Volleyball Invitational begins on Wednesday, Aug. 31, when the Seminoles host Florida A&M at 6 p.m. at Tully Gym. FSU follows with three more home matches in the tournament, hosting James Madison on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m., and playing a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 3, with matches vs. Yale (Noon) and Austin Peay State (5 p.m.).
FSU begins the season at the UC Tournament in Cincinnati. Reigning NCAA Tournament participant Illinois State is FSU’s first opponent of the year, playing the Redbirds on Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. ET. The Seminoles then battle Dayton, which made the NCAA Second Round in 2021, on Aug. 27 at Noon.
Tournament host Cincinnati battles the Seminoles on Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.
FSU returns to the state of Nebraska, which is where it competed in last year’s NCAA Tournament. This time, the Seminoles head to Omaha for the Omaha Home Tournament. Host Omaha faces the Seminoles on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. ET, and FSU then faces Creighton on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
The Seminoles and Gators play on the hardwood courts for the 76th time on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.
Before entering the ACC portion of the schedule, the Seminoles finish their non-conference slate hosting UAB on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m.
Television designations for each match will be confirmed at a later date.
After finishing 20-10 last season, as well as 11-7 in a difficult ACC, Florida State returns nine student-athletes from the 2021 squad. Seniors Emma Clothier and Lauryn Burrows co-captain a group that also has six new additions and a 15-player roster.
