Series vs. UC Santa Barbara: FSU trails 0-1. UCSB won the only previous meeting during the 1998 Judy Bellomo Classic in Santa Barbara in three hard-fought games 15-13, 19-17, 15-10. Jennifer Werrick led FSU with 17 kills while Aisha Thornton added 14 in the defeat last year.
Series vs. Florida Atlantic: Florida State leads 6-0. The last meetings came in 1997 when FSU swept a home-and-home series with FAU.

Florida State fell in four games including a 16-18 defeat in game four in their opening match of the NIU Invitational. Jennifer Werrick posted a career-high 27 kills along with 17 digs. Jamie Hibbard tallied 76 assists and 12 digs. Thornton notched 22 kills and 6 blocks in the loss.
Santa Clara 3, Florida State 0
The Broncos swept past FSU in three. Werrick was the only Lady Seminole with double-digit kills at 14. Santa Clara totaled 61 kills to FSU’s 35.
Florida State 3, Northern Illinois 0
FSU avenged its 1998 NCAA Tournament loss to NIU with a 3-game sweep of the Huskies on their home court. Erica Bunch, Aisha Thornton, and Jennifer Werrick tallied double-digit kills.

Nole Notes – An All-Tournament Performance
Junior outside hitter Jennifer Werrick was named to the All-Tournament Team at the NIU Invitational this past weekend following a 53-kill, 34-dig performance over three matches. She hit .322 for the tournament and added 4 block assists. Her 27 kills against UT-Arlington was a career-high.
For the Hometown Crowd
Seniors Courtney Dipert and Aisha Thornton, each had stellar performances in front of their own hometown crowds at the Northern Illinois Invitational in DeKalb. Dipert, from Lisle, IL, notched a career-high 15 digs against UT-Arlington last Friday. Thornton, from Country Club Hills, IL, led FSU with a .451 hitting percentage and added 10 blocks during the three tournament matches.
National Top Ten Teams Visit Tallahassee
Florida State will face its first ranked opponent of the season on Wednesday when the Lady Seminoles host #9 UC Santa Barbara. UCSB has yet to lose a game in six victories. The Gauchos visit Auburn Tuesday before their Wednesday match with Florida State. In less than two weeks, the Noles face another Top Ten team when the Florida Gators come to town on September 28th.
Nearly half (10 of 21) of Florida State’s opponents this season received votes in the USA Today / AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll released August 12th. FSU faces a pair of Top 12 teams during September, both in Tallahassee. #12 UC Santa Barbara visits on the 15th and #8 Florida comes to town on the 28th. Five ACC schools received votes (FSU, GT, UNC, UVa, Clem.). FSU’s schedule also boasts 14 matches against 10 1998 NCAA Tournament teams.
