Sept. 17, 1999
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Lady Seminole sophomore middle hitter
Norisha Campbell’s team-high 13 kills and five blocks helped lead
Florida State to a 15-11, 16-14, 15-13 win over Florida Atlantic this
evening at Tully Gymnasium. FSU improves to 4-5 on the season while FAU
falls to 4-6.
The Tribe held FAU to a .059 hitting performance in game one
while freshman Erica Bunch led the way with four kills and seven digs in
the first set. Games two and three saw the Lady Seminoles build leads
of 6-0 and 5-0, before they allowed the Owls to scratch their way back
and take leads. Florida State never trailed by more than one point
throughout the match and came away with the 3-0 win. FSU holds a
perfect 7-0 series advantage over Florida Atlantic.
Junior Jennifer Werrick recorded her third double-double of the
season with 12 kills and a team-high 10 digs. Bunch finished the match
with 10 kills while senior Aisha Thornton turned in a .615 hitting
performance on nine kills, one error and 13 attempts.
“Obviously, we are pleased with the three-game victory,” FSU
Head Coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud said. “FAU is a good team and they made
some adjustments throughout the match that we didn’t adjust to
ourselves. We still need some work on our blocking, but overall, I’m
pleased with the win.”
Florida State will host Liberty in a Noon match tomorrow,
Saturday, Sept. 18th at Tully Gymnasium.
