Winston-Salem, NC – The Florida State volleyball team improved to 13-6
overall and 2-3 in conference play with a 3-0 victory over Wake Forest
Friday evening at Reynolds Gym. The Deacons fall to 10-5 overall and 2-3
in ACC play. The Lady Seminoles trailed 8-13 in the third game, but were
victorious in the match by scores of 15-12, 15-8 and 16-14.
Wake had an opportunity to take the match to a fourth game, but gave up
six unanswered points to the Seminoles. Florida State trailed 13-8 in
that game, yet came back to knot the score at 14-14. The Deacs gave up
the final two points as Florida State won its second ACC contest this
The first game was also a tight one, with no team leading by more than
four points. Florida State pulled out to a 14-10 lead over the Deacons,
who scored twice to bring the margin to within two. A Wake Forest
attack error sealed the game for the Seminoles, who opened up the second
game with a 3-0 lead.
Florida State led by as many as nine points in that second game, but the
Deacs fought back with three consecutive points of their own. The
Seminole attack was too much, however, as Wake dropped the second game

team-high 16 kills, while Alex Sevillano and Norisha Campbell added 14
apiece. Luana Ruiz Azevedo chipped in 15 digs, while Sevillano and
Jamie Hibbard record 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Hibbard topped the
assist category for Florida State, recording 46 in the three games.
Wake Forest was led by junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya, who
recorded double figures in kills and digs for the ninth time in 2000.
She added 18 kills and 24 digs to the stat sheet. Junior middle blocker
Margaret Davidson also shined for the Deacs. She contributed 12 kills
and 12 digs, marking a season-high in digs. Sophomore setter Ashlee
Phillips assisted on a match-high 46 balls.
